When God Comes To Visit

by Tesh Njokanma

Have you ever had someone come to see you and all the time you were busy looking at the clock hoping the person would leave? From time to time we get visits from unwanted visitors. People who just don't seem to get the hint when you want them to go away. You try everything: pretending to be busy, tapping your foot, yawning repeatedly, or even falling asleep. Still, they don't get it. They continue blabbing on and on about something you aren't in the least bit interested in. When they eventually leave, you give a big sigh of relief!

There are different kinds of people that show up at our door. Family, friends, invited visitors, intruders, unwanted visitors etc. What would happen if Jesus showed up at your door today? Would you be happy to see Him? Would you recognize Him? Would you be too busy to attend to Him? Or would you even be at home when He comes knocking?

God loves to visit His people. He loves to show up at our door. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." God showed up at Abraham's door in Genesis 18. During that visit, God promised him that by this time next year his wife Sarah would have a son. It sounded so unbelievable that Sarah laughed. But the thing that appeared so impossible became a reality after that divine visit.

In 1 Samuel 2:21 we are told that "the Lord visited Hannah so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord". After the Lord visited Hannah, her reproach was rolled away. Not only was her reproach rolled away, her expectations were exceeded. She asked for one child but after God's visit, she had five children. In Acts 9, God visited Saul and after that visit, his life was never the same again. His life took on a totally new direction. The persecutor of the church of God became a great preacher for God.

The Bible has records of divine visitations from the Old to the New Testament. God is still in the business of visiting His people. Psalm 8:4 says something very interesting. It says, "what is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?" Who are we, with all our sins, frailties and weaknesses that the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, would choose to visit us; would consider us worthy and important enough to show up at our door.

This is your set time for a divine visitation. Like it happened to Abraham, Hannah, Paul and so many other people, God is going to show up at your door. God is going to visit you. Don't keep Him standing out when He comes knocking. Don't be too busy that you don't have time for Him. Welcome Him in with praise, worship and thanksgiving. Show Him great hospitality by giving Him something special; something you have never given Him before. Make His stay interesting by devoting quality time to talk and commune with Him.

Nothing is more glorious than a visitation from God. God will certainly visit you this month and there will be a turnaround in your life.
