Sideways?

To think before taking an action is better than to think after taking an action. If you think first, it will afford you the opportunity to consider the pros and cons of what you intend to do. Then you will be able to order your steps aright to reap the best benefits.

Before acting, it is not only thinking that should be involved. Looking must be brought in. Where you look also determines what you will do because it influences your thought patterns. What you see will lead you to think on what steps to take.

The children of Israel suffered for long in the land of Egypt. They were seriously oppressed. At the ripe time, a deliverer was born whose name was Moses. This Hebrew child was brought up in the palace of King Pharaoh by divine arrangement. He grew up there. Yet, he did not see himself as an Egyptian but a Jew. Not only this, he was convinced that he was born to liberate the Jews.
"Many years later, when Moses had grown up, he went out to visit his own people, the Hebrews, and he saw how hard they were forced to work. During his visit, he saw an Egyptian beating one of his fellow Hebrews.
After looking in all directions to make sure no one was watching, Moses killed the Egyptian and hid the body in the sand." Exodus 2:11-12. NLT.

From the above account, Moses looked in all directions and was sure no one was on hand to know what he planned to do, he went into action: He killed an Egyptian and buried his body in the sand. He hid his sin (evil act) of murder. Whereas, the Scriptures assures that whoever hides his sin will not prosper.

This action sent Moses to a forty years self-exile to escape the wrath of the king when he heard about the murder.

Now, who told the king? Before Pharaoh heard, the news must have spread throughout the land of Egypt. Who was the journalist who wrote his misdeeds in the media? When Moses commited the murder, he was convinced that nobody was watching because he had looked sideways to ensure no one was watching.

Where Moses looked was a contrast with that of Joseph, one of his progenitors, who was in his lifetime faced with a sin of fornication. It was his master's wife who cast a longing eye on him. She wanted him to "lie with her". Joseph refused to "be with her", "lie by her" or "lie with her".

One day, the woman attempted to "rape" him when no one was within the vicinity. It was a time and a place when and where no man was watching.

Joseph's thoughts and looks were different: he thought of One and saw Him whom the woman did not think of or saw. To the woman's illicit demands, he replied,
"How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God." Genesis 39:9 (NLT).

Moses, like Potipha's wife, was only able to "escape" the watching eyes of man unsuccessfully. However, Joseph recognized the ALL- SEEING EYES of God. He did not only look sideways, he looked up.

It was not only Moses, Potipha's wife and Joseph that were pursued by a sin or wickedness.

What is that sin or evil act appealling to you? Anytime you are face-to-face with it, where do you look? Sideways? There is a limit to looking sideways. Take a further step, look up to consider that nothing can conceal the deeds of man from the eyes of God.

He alone also can compensate each person according to what does.

Committing fornication with his master's wife would have ruined Joseph's destiny of becoming a Prime Minister in the land of Egypt. His reign would have terminated in the house of his master.

Not only this, the matter would finally be known by people including Potipha, his master. Only God knows what would have become of Joseph and his destiny.

Therefore, beloved reader, anytime you are faced with any possibility of doing evil, after looking sideways to ensure no one is watching, consider looking up to remember that God is watching you. Do not sin against Him; avoid every evil.

Do not be a destroyer because "one sinner can destroy much that is good". (Ecclesiastes 9:18) NLT.
