Christian Meditation: 10 Signs You Need to Start Meditating Today!

by Rhonda Jones

In this fast-paced and success-driven society, it's so easy to lose track of your faith and place it on the sidelines in favor of the more "pressing" matters in life. However, you soon realize that living life as if you're on auto-pilot and not taking the time to strengthen your spirituality can be damaging not only to your spirit but also on your health.

If you feel like something's not right or something's missing in your life, it may be time to stop the current pace of your life and take your much needed time to meditate with the Lord.

.
Here are 10 Signs you Need to Start Meditating Today:

.
1. When You Feel Disconnected from God
Has it been months since you last talked to God? Or has it been years? You realize that your career is on a high, but when did you really enjoy the true meaning of your job or your life in general?
When you feel like God is not present in any part of your life right now, then it's time to slow down and realize that God is actually with you - you just didn't take notice of His presence.

In Matthew 28: 20, it says that "He is with you always, even to the end of the world." Even when you're not talking to him, even when you're not feeling His blessings upon you, He is by your side, and all it needs to reconnect with Him is by taking the time to acknowledge His presence by surrendering your thoughts and feelings to God through the form of complete meditation.

.
2. When You're Overstressed
"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are His everlasting arms." - Deutoronomy 33:27
When work and family life is too overwhelming, take a few minutes of your day to meditate and surrender all the stresses in your life to the Lord. Believe that you can give all your stresses to him, and He will relieve you of the pains and worries that you may have.
Exhaustion from work and family life is debilitating not just on your health, but also your mind and spirit. Give your burdens to the Lord and He will give you the rest that you deserve.

.
3. When Your Mind is Filled with Negative Thoughts
Are you always suspicious about your spouse? Are you envious about your siblings' success? Negative thoughts can eat your mental and emotional health, leaving a rotting spirit that can make you angry and frustrated with whatever you have in life.

God said through Hebrews 13:5, "Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
If you have marital or financial problems today, take the moment to be quiet and believe that the Lord will provide you with the answers and solutions to whatever it is you're facing today.

.
4. When You've Lost your Joy
When you spend time with your family but can't enjoy their presence because of problems at work, or when you play your favorite sport but no longer find pleasure - it's time to call unto the Lord and pray.
Find a room in the house where it's quiet, bring your Bible, and read aloud Psalm 92: 4-5: "For you make me glad by your deeds Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!"

Everything in your life is given to you for a reason - whether they're good or bad. Find joy in every experience God has given you, and trust that the Lord will bring back your joy.

.
5. When You Need Direction
Are you at a crossroads in your life? Do you need an answer but can't find it? Pray and meditate to God and He will give you the answer. In Jeremiah 33:3, God says "Call to me and I will answer you, and show you mighty things, which you know not."

.
6. When You Want to Be Closer to Him
Yes, you may go to church, you may pray to Him, but is there something still missing? Do you have a true relationship with God?

Get more intimate with the Lord by taking time each day to forget about all the physical things in life and just meditate and talk to Him. Zechariah 1:2 states "Therefore say to them, "Thus says the Lord of hosts, "Return to me, that I may return to you."

.
7. When You Worry All the Time
Worry stems from fear and lack of trust in the Lord. Worry can damage your spirit - making you stray from your faith in what the Lord has in store for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 states, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

What comes ahead may not be known to you today, but trusting that the Lord has great things planned for you will make you stop worrying about every single in life.

Look for a room with very little noise and distractions, close your eyes, pray, and believe that the Lord has something mighty for your life.

.
8. When You Have Bad Health
Meditation is known to strengthen a person's immune system. And when you include God in your meditation, it completes your entire spiritual journey. Knowing and truly believing that God will take care of your body will boost your body's health, and give you the hope you need to fight whatever diseases are present in your system.
John 1:2 says, "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health, and that all may go well for you..." God wants you to enjoy a healthy body, and you must believe that He will give it to you.

.
9. When You Need Comfort from God
You may be having troubles at work, in your marriage, or in your family, but surrender your problems to the Lord and He will give you the comfort that you need.
Psalm 23:4 states, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me."

.
10. When You Need to Release Anger
God tells us through Psalm 37:8, "Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil."

Anger damages your faith, your soul, and your spirit. When someone has forsaken you, you'll automatically feel anger towards that person. Feel the anger but let it go once you've become overcome by this strong emotion.

Get away from life, find a quiet spot, ask for the Lord's forgiveness, and pray to be free from this evil emotion.

When the demands of everyday life has taken your faith away, don't hesitate to give it all to God. Everyday, for even just 10 minutes of quiet meditation, give all your negative emotions and thoughts to God, and ask Him to remove all these things from your life.

Those 10 minutes of daily meditation are more than enough to give you back your life free from all the debilitating things that ruin your faith and spirituality.

Meditate with God everyday and get back the life you were always meant to live under Christ.
