Can People See God in Your Life

by Sharen Lightsey

One of my desires as I grow in my walk with the Lord is that people see my God in my life. I hope there is some clear anointing, some manifestation, some gift that is so evident that people say, "It's because her God is with her." There are two people that stand out in scripture that give testimony that others saw that God was with them. They are Joseph and King Solomon.
This month we'll look at Joseph. Many of us are familiar with his story. He came from a dysfunctional family. He was his father's (Jacob) favored one. Jacob loved him more than his other children and showed it. His brothers were jealous of him because of his favored treatment by their father. When Jacob gave Joseph a gift - an amazing coat of many colors, his brothers felt more left out and their jealousy increased. Joseph didn't help his relationship with them by sharing his dreams of dominance over them, and his brothers grew to hate him. They plotted to kill him, but chose instead to sell him as a slave, where he was taken to Egypt and purchased by an Egyptian official named Potiphar.
Despite the fact that Jacob not the best father, he apparently introduced his children to his God, Jehovah. Joseph must have had a unique fellowship with Jehovah. He honored God by performing his duties as a slave with a spirit of excellence. Scripture says that God was with Joseph even in his position as a slave and his master noticed it. "But the Lord was with Joseph, and [though a slave] was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did to flourish and succeed in his hand." (Genesis 39:2-3) AMP
Joseph was seventeen years old when he was sold as a slave. He didn't know the language nor the customs of the people of Egypt. He was an outsider. Yet Potiphar recognized that Joseph was not like the other slaves he had purchased. I'm sure Joseph did not carry himself like a slave, nor did he act or even speak like one. Joseph probably carried himself like a king. It was a part of who he was and his master noticed. God's holy anointing was on Joseph.
Potiphar was obviously a man of discernment. We can see from this scripture that even those who are not believers can see God's hand upon us. He acknowledged and saw that Joseph's God made him successful. He saw the connection, and was impressed with the way God manifested Himself in Joseph's life and work.
As Joseph prospered and became successful, Potiphar noticed that things in his own life changed. He began to experience supernatural increase. Eventually Potiphar promoted him over his entire affairs. When Potiphar promoted Joseph over his affairs, he experienced an even greater level of prosperity and increase.
4 he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. 5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master's household and property, the LORD began to bless Potiphar's household for Joseph's sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. 6 So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn't worry about a thingexcept what kind of food to eat! (Genesis 39:4-6) NLT
God made Joseph successful. God is the one who makes us successful and prosperous. People are watching us. Therefore, what we do must be done with excellence. Eventually God will reward us. Our instructions may come from a human authority, but our kingdom responsibility is to our Father who is in heaven. He's the one who gives increase and promotion by moving on the hearts of men to bless us. It is also determined by the purposes that God has for us.
We know that God had a greater purpose for Joseph than that he remain a slave and only be Potiphar's administrator for the rest of his life. Through the course of events, Joseph spent many years in jail until God promoted him to the position of governor of Egypt. His real purpose was to save the lives of many people including those of his own family.
God has a purpose for you and me. At some point there must be a disconnection from what we see and experience in the earth realm, and focus our minds and hearts on Him who is in control of the heavens and the earth. When we do, we will experience greater blessings in our lives. If we allow this kingdom principle to operate in our lives, we will be like Joseph. People will see that our God is with us no matter what position we are in.
