Forced to Surrender

In dealing with people I had questioned why some people surrender to the Lord freely and some seem to be forced too. I see that there is quite a difference.

A person that is facing circumstances totally beyond their control may surrender to the Lord only because they find no other choice. Many are bitter and resentful as they cannot understand while looking at others why they cannot do or have as someone else. They realize that they cannot do anything about their situation and are not happy at all. They are full of anger.

On the other hand, a person that chooses to surrender because they love the Lord and have realized that what God wants for them is far better than what they would ever want for themselves does so willingly. They have learned that God is faithful and will always take care of them if they will serve Him with all of their heart. They get excited when they experience the Lord doing things for them as it is far more rewarding inside than when they trusted in self. They love the Lord and are willing to die for him just to have his intimacy and presence.

The Bible tells us that we know them by their fruit. Even though a person may profess to know Jesus and at times seem to be used of Him with a great anointing, the fruit can still be very wrong otherwise. I have looked at the fruit and cannot find anything that would make me want to be like them or to believe in their God. I look at other people I know and can quickly name off many good fruits.

I say this as I suspect that the bad fruited person has not surrendered to the Lord out of love but out of no choice. They are very unhappy with their life and full of anger very often. They constantly are looking at other people that have things they want and get upset. They seem to not be able to talk about someone else without bad-mouthing them. They seem to focus only on what others do wrong, rarely on what others do right.

I know that each of us at times may be critical but as a usual practice it is not the norm. Surrendering to another requires trust. If we do not feel like that we can trust another it becomes very difficult to surrender our life to them and say to them have your way with me no matter what I am yours. When the trust and surrender is right no matter the circumstance we can be full of faith and know that the Lord has something in mind and it will come out for our good and His Glory. We may never have what others have yet we are willing to accept whatever the Lord chooses for us as our hearts total desire is to please and serve Him. Our life becomes only about what He desires and no longer what we desire. We become like the Apostle Paul that counted everything but dung that we may win Christ. The priority is now Jesus and no longer self. We are able to be like Paul, content with or without.
