Mini-devotion for Friday, June 19, 2015

Romans 12:21. KJV, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." Rev. 12:11, KJV, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." Today's world seems to be one in which, according to society, there is no right and wrong. We read in the Old Testament book of Judges chapter 17, verse 6, "In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes." We listen to the pastors preach it is wrong; Television ministries proclaim it is sin; We read it directly in God's Word for ourselves it is wrong. Then at times, go ahead and do it any way. We will never overcome evil by sinning, but by allowing the righteousness of Christ to fill up our lives. We only overcome by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus Christ) and the word of our testimonies. We must overcome by resisting (refusing to give in to the temptation to sin). James 4:7-8, KJV, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." If we try to straddle the fence, we will wind up getting hurt. We can't resist by trying to do both right and wrong at the same time. Today, may we overcome evil with good, be able to have a strong word of testimony and a covering of the blood of Jesus over our lives, by allowing his righteousness to be our own. As the Scripture tells us in Isaiah 64:6, KJV, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." Think of the most filthy rag you can think of and multiply that filthiness by trillions of times. All our own righteousness is much dirtier than that. Today, let us be overcomers.
