How Is Your Personal Principles And Policies?

by Olawale Ogunsola
7/14/2015 / Christian Living

Two young men were in a relaxed mood one day in Febtuary 2015 in the evening and I sat alone meditating on the Word of God.

Suddenly, I heard one of them saying,
"It is one of my principles not to greet anybody first. If the person greets me, I may answer him or her casually."
He went ahead to give an example of a day the head of his corporation was passing by within the corporation's premises. Other employees greeted the boss but he did not. This man paid attention to this and asked him,
"Mr ...., did you not see me?"

"Yes, I saw you." he answered.
"You saw me and failed to greet me. You are very funny."

The boss went away according to him.

I don't know what your impression about him is but I want you to know that this young man is a "Christian" because we were all in a place of prayer.

Before we had an encounter with the Lord, we all had Personal Principles and Policies we adhered to. These were based on several factors. Each Principle and Policy had its "benefits", so to say. With them we were comfortable and were not ready to shift ground when it comes to them because we wanted everybody to see us as "a man of principles" and someone who has his policies on issues.

I think you had yours whether those policies and principles were good or not; some elements of selfishness may (or may not) be present.

I had mine.

The question now is "Do you still maintain your Personal Principles and policies as a Christian?". By the time you were forming them, you did not know Christ and the Word of God.

Fine!

Now that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, what have you done to or doing with those principles and policies, most especially those which opposed the Scriptures?

Job says in chapter twenty.three and in verse twelve,
"I have not departed from the commandments of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth
More than my necessary food." NKJV.

Can you echoe those words of Job considering your personal principles and policies?

What do you do when the Lord's commandments contradict your man made principles. What steos do you take when His Words are in opposition to your policies?

It is a wise decision for you to allow His commandments and words to overpower and overshadow your own principles and policies. Let Him and all that are His take pre- eminence over you and all that you are as well as what you have. No matter how "good" they may be, if you cherish them more than God's words and commandments, it simply means you have an "idol". Are you surprised? Note that anything which you love more than or as much as "love" God is an idol.

No debate on this! God does not want your heart or life shared with anybody or anything.

What do you have to do now? Simple. Apostle Paul is a man like yourself. He had his Personal Principles and Policies. However, when he had known the Lord, he dropped them for Christ. He declared,
"But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish,
that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness..." Philippians 3:7-9a. NKJV.

Beloved of Christ, attain to the excellence of knowledge of Christ and gain Christ to remain in Him, count all your Personal Principles and Policies as rubbish. Eternal life will be sure for you. It is only God's commandments and His words that can give you life; your principles and policies cannot do this.
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
