Trust And Rest.

by Olawale Ogunsola

Everyone has expectations in various times and forms and from different persons or sources. Expectations can be likened to destinations, where you must walk to before arriving there.

To arrive there, you need your two legs. If your legs have no problems, you will get to your destination with ease, barring any external obstacles.

So it is with expectations.

Where do you expect your desires? This is very important. Your expectations must be from above. It is the only source that never fails. What comes from above always looks and tastes better. This is the decision of the Psalmist in Psalm 121:1-3.
From whom do you hope to have your expectations met? Man or woman? Young or old? If human beings are your strength, you are bound to be disappointed. Do you want to avoid this? If yes, you must look up to have your expectations met from above as you hope in God.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2.
If you have the same expectations as your destinations, then your two legs must be these:

1. Trust in the Lord.
In Psalm 37, the Songwriter mentioned the word "Trust" twice in verses three and five. This shows its importance. Trust involves having no other options but the Lord only. To trust Him is to depend on Him for all things as the ONLY CUSTODIAN of everything good.

Note the attachment to trust in verse three of Psalm 37, "and do good".
As you trust the Lord for loads of goods or benefits, you need also to occupy yourself with doing good. Do not forget that you will not reap what you do not sow. Your trust in the Lord is not a licence to do evil. Doing good will make you pleasing to Him.

Now, do you ask, "How often do I trust the Lord?". Yes, you are right to ask. The answer is
"Trust in him at all times." Psalm 62:8a. Trust in Him 24/7 of your life.

2. Rest in the Lord.
Now, the second leg is to rest in the Lord. Rest is the ultimate! Do not forget that the Lord's first promise to all who answer His call is REST (Matt. 11:28.).

Do you want His rest? If yes, you need to answer His call to come to Him. If you have answered this and have lost that relationship that assures rest, return to Him with an humbled heart (Luke15:10-31).

However, if you are ever with Him but have not got this rest, the fault is not of the Lord but yours.

Why?

You are a co.worker with the Lord in your life. He loves you immeasurably and is ready to supply all your needs. Rest is like a ready-made food set before you. It now depends on you to eat, waste, abandon or neglect it. The options are yours. The Lord will not force you. If you really trust Him, you need to choose to rest in Him.

To rest in Him involves your ability to wait until He supplies what you demand from Him. Not only this, add patience to your waiting. What do I mean? If you patiently wait, you will have rest. So, you will not,
1. Allow your heart to be troubled.
2. Murmur.
3. Grumble.
4. Complain.
5. Accuse God of foolishness.
6. Consider any alternatives.
7. Allow anyone close to encourage you to take any step which will be contrary to the will of God.

If you can trust and rest in the Lord, He will surely bring all your desires that are in line with His plans to pass in His right time. Therefore, I pray that the Holy Spirit helps you to trust and rest in the Lord for the rest of your life.
Stay bkessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon to take all His saints to where He is to give them everlasting REST.
