We Are What We Think

What are you thinking about? Did you know that what we think about is important to the Lord. So much so that he even gave to us guidelines of how that we are to think. What we think on is a choice. Our body does not just act out of its own but a thought is acted upon by our body.

We are told:

Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

The mind that we have is a choice. God wants us to have the mind of Christ which is His mind as Jesus tells us that:

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Obviously the word "let" means to allow or choose. We can choose the mind of Christ, our own mind, or the devils mind. We can look at what we think about and see if it fits into the guidelines that God has provided for us. God's reward for thinking correctly is peace.

Philippians 4:

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

So what do you think about? Are your thoughts within God's guidelines or somewhere else? If they are in His guidelines then you should find peace in your mind. If not, most likely you have turmoil and wrestle with many things. God has even given to us a way out of not thinking correctly. If we can learn to apply this scripture we will find that we can get our thinking back in line and walk in peace.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Paul tells us to cast down the imaginations. An imagination is a thought. In other words we have been given the ability and authority over our thoughts. Many thoughts can enter our minds that come from the devil. We can judge our thoughts by the guidelines that God gave. If they are not within the perimeters then there is a good chance that the devil has inspired the thought. This is how he gets us to go the wrong way. His ways will take us away from God and cause us to sin and just do things that are not good for us or pleasing to God. The devil has an objective and it is to kill, steal, and destroy (see John 10:10). It's very important to learn to judge our thoughts and know where they are coming from. If we can learn to recognize the thought that are demonically inspired and deal with them we will find much more peace in our minds and a whole lot less problems.

I personally have found that if I apply this scripture this way that it has been effective for me in getting rid of thoughts that I should not have or dwell on. I literally say, "I cast down every imagination or thought that has entered my mind that is not of the Lord Jesus Christ and command it to loose my mind right now and let it go in Jesus name. I have found this to be effective for me as I may be considering something and after I take authority over my thoughts I find that what I was considering was not given by God. It is an excellent way to get rid of confusion. Confusion comes as we are thinking many things at once and cannot determine which is right. We are to have a mind that is clear not confused. God even tells us that we go out with joy and are led forth by peace (Isa 55:12). So thinking correctly with God's mind is very important. Peace is needed to be led by God's Spirit. If you would do a study on the words thought, thoughts, imagination, you would find that God has much to say about it. There are countless scriptures in the Bible that talk about thoughts. They are obviously very important to the Lord or He would not have written so many passages about this subject.

If you have peace in your mind then you are in good shape but if you don't then you may want to consider God's Word and his way to eliminate wrong thinking. Peace is awesome. People that don't have it would like to have it. God's ways will bring your mind back into peace that you may follow him. The choice is ours to have his mind with peace, or our mind or the devils with all the turmoil.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
