It's okay to be still

by Vanessa Grossett
8/04/2015 / Christian Living

Have you ever experienced moments in your life, when everything is going great, your busy, active, feeling productive, then all of a sudden you come to a stand still? Things aren't going as well as you want them too, you're being to feel weary, tired, and unproductive, you don't know what to do anymore.

If you're like me, and like to be productive it can be very hard to be still. You're at a lost when you're not busy, especially in the society we live in, being busy is the norm.

However as children of God we must learn to let Him take over. Most times we come to a halt in certain situations because God wants us to be still. He wants to remind us that our dependency must be on Him, being independent is not part of Christianity.

Yes God has given us a mindset, and in some things we must use common sense, but in the majority of situations, God wants us to depend on Him in all things and not just some.

It's not easy, especially when someone has done us wrong. Our human nature tells us not to let things lie, not to hold our peace. When we don't do that, we end up being more stress, tired, and weary. I wrote not too long ago on my Facebook page that it's okay to surrender battles, and it's truly okay to surrender battles to God. It is not a weak thing to do; it is the right thing to do. Wouldn't you rather have your peace of mind, knowing that the Lord is taking care of your situation?

So what do we do in the still times? We get back into the Word of God. Sometimes when we are busy, it can take our time away from studying God's Word. We pray, praise, get our spiritual life back on track, and we wait.

It is during these times we feel refreshed spiritually and naturally. We get back to important matters; we get back to our top priority, God. So don't think having a still time is bad, in fact it is one of the most important times you can have.

Our lives shouldn't be designed around worldly busyness, yes we need to make a living to pay bills, and eat food, but God put us on this earth for more than that. We are here for a purpose, and our main purpose is to worship Him, develop a relationship with our creator, making Him number one in our lives, and share the gospel. He will always take care of us. As David puts it in Psalms 37:25 'I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.'

Brethren if we need to have still times to return back to God, to remind ourselves that we need to depend on Him, to refresh ourselves spiritually then let it be so. Don't fight the stillness embrace it, as stillness is just as good as busy times.

"Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold." Psalm 46:10-11.
