Jesus Works The Fish Market - You Catch Em, He'll Clean Em

"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase, So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own rewards according to his labor" - 1 Corinthians 3:6-8

I was watching the Discovery Channel show Deadly Catch, If you haven't seen the series it's a show about the daily routine of commercial fishermen. The job of the crew aboard the fishing boats is to cast out the nets, or crab cages and bring in the catch, they were not required to clean the catch, or prep them, only catch and deliver to the buyer. Sounds like an easy job, but it is a long way from that, the crew at times have to struggle with rough waters and a lot of time rough coworkers. So, what does this have to do with 1 Corinthians 3:6-8?.. I'm getting to that.

Jesus said to Peter, come follow me and I will make you a fisher of men, Jesus words called us to be fishermen like the crew from the show deadly catch. We are to cast our nets and bring them in, no cleaning required, just make the catch. You see, Jesus works the fish market, we are the fishermen, our job is to simply catch them, Gods job is to clean them. If we choose to do the job of catching and cleaning, we no longer work for God, but for ourselves.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling concerning gay marriage, I heard the story of a bakery that was fined one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for their refusal to sell a wedding cake to a gay couple. As for being a business owner I couldn't understand this because we are not allowed to discriminate regardless of our believes. There has been plenty of times when a customer has come into my business who I knew hated me because of the color of my skin, but I still had to serve them. Not just because it was the law, but because it was the right thing to do. Jesus said, What ever you want men to do to you, do also to them, Matthew 7:12.

The business that refused the gay couple not only broke the law, but they passed up the perfect opportunity to witness the GospelHow? That is simple, be like Jesus! When Jesus sat among sinners He never belittled them, or told them how they were headed for hell, Jesus hated the sin, but He loved the sinner and He showed it through His actions. Jesus told the Pharisees in John 8:15, You judge according to the flesh, I judge no one, Want to be like Jesus? Don't judge, just show the love, it's that simple.

I'm from the country and continue to live in the country of southwest Virginia, and here everyone loves to fish, not like the commercial fishermen from the show Deadly Catch, but the simple sit on the water bank, or boat and cast out the line. Unlike the commercial fishermen we have to clean and prepare the catch or through it back.

When fishing you have to be careful not to cause a lot of disruption in the water, to much disruption can cause the fish to move into a different area. The same goes for us as being fisher of men, we sometimes cause so much disruption when fishing that we scare away the person we are trying to reach. If you are asking yourself what does that mean, then let me explain.

Witnessing is sharing the Gospel, the Gospel is the Good News, The Good News is Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, The Son of God who is Jesus Christ is also God, and God is Love, The love of Jesus is what we show others when witnessing the Gospel, the Good News of the Gospel is that Christ loved us so much He died for our sins and all He ask in return is for you, and me, to Love and accept Him.

Still confused?Let's try this another way.

When ask why He sat and ate with sinners, Jesus replied, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick" our words have the power to heal the heart of others and also the power the destroy their will, the choice is yours on how they are used. Jesus choice to use words of healing and not those of condemnation. So many feel they have to do all Gods work for Him, so they catch and try to clean, but it doesn't work. When we try to do the cleaning part, that is when we cause the disruption in the waters. Our words become hurtful and condemning because we want to point out their wrongs and then it's no longer Jesus saves, but we save and Jesus becomes the middle man.

Paul said we are nothing you and I because we plant and water, but it is God who gives the increase, and we who plant and water will receive our reward for our labor. So it once again becomes like the crew of Deadly Catch, we only fish and bring it to the market, Jesus runs the market so it's His job to do the cleaning.

I am a father, grandfather, husband and follower of my Lord Jesus Christ, I love to share the Gospel with others and I invite everyone to visit http://www.called2blessingministries.org, God Bless!
