SOUNDING OFF

by Kenneth Pappas

We live in the Pacific Northwest. The News networks are having a vigil over the school shooting in Roseburg, Oregon. Three dead and seven critically injured. Every month some lunatic goes out and massacres people. This is what our world has come to. It seems we become less civilized as we near the height of the Secular culture. What is going on?

Do you suppose we are reaching the point where God becomes so disgruntled with humanity His only choice is destruction? Does America have a role in the end times? Our Bibles are silent about America having any part in the end time scenery. Judgment however is universal.

Speaking of the end times; turmoil, wars, natural catastrophes, unrest and hatred has become the norm in our world. If you study your Bible and the end time prophecies (Daniel, Ezekiel, Joel, Matthew, Luke Revelation, and a few others) you will find all have been fulfilled accept two. One, the Lord must come to relieve His saints from the tribulation (if you are a pre-tribulation believer). Second, the man of sin, the antichrist has yet to be revealed. You may disagree and that is fine but the Bible is clear on the subject.

Soon the World Bank will control our monetary system. Science has found a way to eliminate physical money by placing a micro -chip under the skin. The Middle East (the center of the last judgment) is the melting pot of the final scene. Russia and China (both mentioned in prophesy) are building their military. Soon the world peacemaker will arrive and then doom.

So far only a few passages of scripture have been related to, so at this point stop and think. I know we will not know the time; Jesus said He will "come as a thief in the night." He also told us to be ready as we see these things happening, (Matthew). If you study prophesy you will note that each passage ends with a parable about readiness. One example is in Matthew describing virgins heading to the wedding feast. Some had enough oil in their lamps others did not and were not allowed in. Another example is in Luke, the parable of the fig tree. Are Christians today ready in their walk with the Lord?

I understand there are many variations regarding the coming of Christ, Tribulation and the Judgment (pre, mid and post Tribulations) but one thing is sure, there will be a judgment and this world will no longer exist. When you read and study end time prophesy it seems the different views use the same scriptures for their theory. Does it really matter? Listen to some logical thinking.

When you think about it the pattern the Scripture's follow is readiness. What if you died today? You would meet Jesus face to face. If you were ready, that would be your rapture. So the thinking should be, not when Jesus will come, just am I ready?

Let's think about readiness. There are so many commands relating to a good walk with the Lord my thought is most are just as hard to follow as the Law of the Old Testament. You just can't do it! What then is the alternative?

The whole of our Bible has one steady theme, the blood sacrifice. The Old Testament refers to the sacrifice of the unblemished lamb whose blood is spread on the Mercy Seat for the forgiveness of sin. Blood was placed on the doorposts so the death angel would pass over that household. Forgiveness of sin, the grace of God and the way of salvation is found throughout our Bible's. The New Testament brings the same Good News. This time forgiveness is permanent. The blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, shed at Calvary gave forgiveness of sin. Those who believe the story of Jesus and the recognition of sin personally have salvation. But the question still remains; are we ready to meet Jesus face to face?

The message of God's grace brings peace within the person that receives His free gift of salvation, (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 6:23 are just a few passages). Read in John 3 the story of Nicodemus to understand the process. 1 John 1:9 is the way to gain cleansing and righteousness. Following the Lord as the Holy Spirit leads us in my opinion is being ready to meet our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Be ready for the time is close! How close no one knows but all one has to do is look around and see the degradation of religion; how the evil one has crept into all parts of our culture.

Being a Christian is a hard thing in our world. There are distractions all around us. Our minds are taunted every day toward some sort of iniquity. Go to the Internet, watch television, read the news and you can easily see which way things are heading.

Readiness is a personal thing just as salvation. You will never be sinless (Romans 6-8) but you can be ready. My opinion is our readiness evolves around just a few issues. First we must read our Bible's daily, next we must pray continually, then we need to remove sin from our lives (1 John 1:9) and last, we must follow the Holy Spirits guidance in all things. If you follow these few items my opinion is that you will be ready to meet Jesus.
