The Surprise Gift

One day at my computer shop a young women came in with a couple of her friends. She had picked up her laptop a couple of days earlier. She was in my shop this day to complain about the work I had done and how much I had charged her. One of her friends all but called me a thief and a cheat. I had replaced the top cover on her laptop and had problems with the hinges starting to damage the replacement cover just as they had on the old cover. I explained what I did to repair it and how the hinges was going to cause the same issue again because of its poor design.

Long story short I went ahead and refunded the labor charges to her and they left. Later I had decided that I didn't want to do any more business with her again and had planned on marking her name down as to avoid in the future.

The next day at home during my prayer time she came to mind. I immediately started thinking about marking her name down to avoid, when the Holy Spirit started talking to me. Regardless of the hours that I spent trying to repair her laptop the end result was truthfully inferior to what I normally have done. He also pointed out how that reflected poorly on my God who started this business for me to run.

The next thing that was suggested to me to do totally blew me away. I was to take the best refurbished laptop that I had just completed and give it to her. No charge, no exchange and no trade-in. Now what was even more amazing was that I said ok! As soon as I said that my spirit changed within me. Not only did I agree to do it but I got excited about doing it.

I asked God to allow me to call and talk to her. I prayed that she would answer the phone when I called. Most people have caller-id and I feared that she would see that it was me calling and ignore me. I tried calling day after day but no answer. I kept praying and asked for wisdom to make this happen and also for the Holy Spirit to give me the words to say to her.

I finally called her while blocking my phone number first, it worked, she answered. I told her that I had a gift for her that she could use with her classes that she was taking and wanted her to come down to the shop so I could give it to her. She agreed and told me that she would be there before going to work. She didn't show. The next day was Christmas Eve and I was going to close early. Again I prayed and asked for more guidance and called her. I explained that I would be closing early and could she please stop by. She said yes.

Now all of this time I had been praying and asking God for help because I wanted to say the right things to her and to let her know that this was a gift from God not me. That this was all His idea not mine. I wanted her to understand this and I wanted my God to get all of the glory!

She walked in about an hour before closing. I explained what I was doing and that God had placed this on my heart to do. I told her that the laptop I was giving to her was far better than the one she had me repair and it was the best one in my shop. I told her that she could do whatever she wanted with her old laptop but that this one would meet her needs for the classes that she was taking. That this was a gift from God to her. The look on her face was amazing! Shock, joy, happiness and amazement shined from her face. That alone was worth it to me to see and witness. How amazing my God is for taking what was going to be a bad experience for her and for me and He turned it into one of the most wonderful things I ever witnessed! God is awesome!!!
