Decisions

by Steve Countryman
1/15/2016 / Christian Living

It is what makes up our lives, decisions! Everyday of your life decisions have to be made. Even if you become too old or feeble to make them by yourself, someone will make them for you. Too often we don't realize the power that can be found in a decision. Power to overcome our problems or power to create new ones, it all starts with a decision.

Decisions, decisions simple ones like what to wear or what to eat sometimes consume our thoughts. Then those more serious decisions like where to live or what job to take. How about who to date, get serious about or even marry? Have kids, how many, what schools to send them to? Then later in life when you are left to raise the grandkids or let your adult children move back in with you. Who's going to take care of Dad and which rest home to put Mom in?

But what guides you in your decision making process? Do your emotions reign and run your decision life? Do you make your decisions in the heat of the moment? And how is that working for you? Or do you let your friends or family influence your decision making? Do you make your decisions so others will like you? Do you weigh them carefully or base them on convenience? Does fairness ever enter the decision making process? Are your decisions always about what will benefit you or how will it make you look? Do you avoid the decisions that require an honest answer in response?

Too often we let our circumstances reign over our lives and our decisions. Of course your problems always command your attention but should they dictate your decisions? When you let them guide you then you spend more time trying to undo the bad decisions you made along the way.

All of the powerful men and women of the Bible were common people like you and me. What made them different so that they became powerful people of God was their ability and willingness to make great decisions!

Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

We all suffer from the same basic instincts. We all want to be able to figure out things and to be in control of our own lives. Both of those things are what always seem to get in the way of God being God in us, to us, with us, for us and through us. We don't want to relinquish control of our lives to any God unless we can figure Him and His ways out first. That's why we all make the same mistakes with God in our prayers. Most of the time our prayers all end up gravitating to us not only praying for God's help and intervention but telling God HOW we want Him to answer our prayers.

Thank you Lord for your loving patience. Once you think about it telling the Creator of the universe how to answer our prayers, like He needs our advice, is really ridiculous! Yes I have done it too which just shows my lack of faith and trust in my God.

That is really what it all comes down to, trust in God to do what's best for you. Faith in His ability to do what it takes to answer your prayers. That He is not only able but willing to answer your payers. Are you able and willing to receive the answers that God has for your prayers?

Trusting in God even when you don't "SEE" an answer to your circumstances. Letting God be God in every part of your life, everyday, everywhere and every time. That takes a big decision on your part to trust God to handle everything that may come along. To allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, direct your paths, guide your steps and move mightily in you, to you, with you, for you and through you!

Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse as stated is a desire that should lead to a powerful decision. You can easily proclaim this verse as a declaration of choice I WILL do all things through Christ who strengthens me. But real power is found in declaring God's Word as a NOW Word, "I DO all things through Christ who strengthens me." Moving from a desire to a decision to a NOW word is VERY powerful! It all starts with your decision!
