God's Word

by Leonard Granger

Recently, I was watching a Gospel singing group on TV and an older country singer gave this testimony. At age 65 he was introduced to Christ after passing by a little country church in Tennessee for many years. He went to a Sunday service and realized he needed to accept the Lord Jesus as his Savior. He tells all the listeners, today is "the day of salvation" as tomorrow may be too late. Following is a story I wrote about the little church in the country.

The preacher at the little country church, on a winding narrow road off the main highway, wanted to reach out to the farmer families that passed by the church, but never stopped or attended the services. So he spent hours praying to the Lord for an answer and the Lord told him to put up a sign out in front of the church.

The sign reads, "We will not tell you what to do---But we will tell you what our Lord says." Now the passersby were puzzled as that was not the usual sign inviting them to church that they usually had seen. Some of the people decided to go listen to the preacher that says, " We will not tell you what to do." Some people, out of curiosity, decide to attend the Sunday service to see if their sinful life would be accepted at this country church. Others attended even though they thought they lived a good life, as they looked at their neighbor families that attended the church, and saw how they lived each day.

The only one with a sin-free life is our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We as sinners are all saved by our Lord's Grace as the Bible God's Word says, 1 John, 4:15,"Whomsoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God." We should as Christians love others as our Lord tells us. " No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us." 1 John 4:12 Christians reaching out to their neighbors should remember, we are to "speak the truth in love" as our Lord did when he walked the earth as a man.

As our Lord spoke to his disciples and those that believe in Him, he gave us this message, Mathew 28:18 -20 "-----All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded of you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

With that message from our Lord, the preacher said, " I will not tell people what to do as the sign says, but will tell people what God has written in his Book the Bible.Jesus Christ.
