Embrace the Trials

Embrace the trials. That seems an odd thing to say doesn't it? When problems seem to come our tendency is to try escape or to run away from them as they are not comfortable at all. Yet, in the Lord there is a reason for them.

Scripture says:
Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Notice that Jesus, the Son of God, had to go through suffering to learn to be obedient. If Jesus had too then we should not think it strange that we will have to also. This is the way God works in us. When the trial comes and we fight it or try to escape it, we are actually blocking the Lord from perfecting something in us that is really for our good. These trials are meant to cause us to grow. It seems the opposite when going through them as we think that if they continue it will kill us. God is actually causing good things and we see them as bad. We need to change our thinking. Instead of running we need to embrace these trials and thank God that He is changing us so that He can use us more and more. He is actually preparing us for new things. It is a positive not a negative. The Apostle Paul knew this as he wrote:

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

1Thesolonians 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Like you, I have had many trials to face. I had gotten worn out dealing with so many. It seemed they never ended no matter what I did. The Holy Spirit had been talking to me today as to basically why I was worn out. I have been fighting them not realizing that they were actually working for my good. As long as I was seeing them as a bad thing they continued. Once I embraced them and allowed the Holy Spirit to accomplish what He wanted through them then I seemed to find more peace. In the natural, who wants to have the trials and problems? Yet, if we allow them to happen and let God work, then we will see His Hand working in our behalf. So many of these trials are beyond our control so it makes sense to give them over to the Lord as He alone can and will intervene. We just need to learn to thank and praise Him in the midst of them and give up our control over them.

1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

The words of a song have always ministered to me since I heard them. This is the ones I remember so not a complete verse. If it were not for the problem, we would never know that He could solve them. God allows the problems so that we can learn and see that He not only can but will solve them if we will just get out of His way. So I hope maybe that after reading this you might try a different approach when the trials come. You may find that they don't last as long as they use too.

Addendum:

After writing this article I had to face another trial. I have had a car that for some time seems to just not like me. Every time I get in it seems something else would break. I bought it as it was supposed to have a new transmission but if so it only made it 40,000 miles as it went out after 2 months after I purchased . I had to max all my credit cards to pay for it. So now it seems the ABS system is goofy and does weird things when I put on the brakes at times. Also the check engine lights come on usually. I have always been one that believed in preventative maintenance but now living on Social Security, I can no longer keep up. I felt like I am having to watch my car die and have no ability to do anything about it. This is just not me as I have always felt I needed to take care of what God gave me but now I am in a position that I cannot.

The Lord reminded me of Paul when he said:

Philippians 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

I realized that I was suffering the loss of my car. More than that I was suffering the loss of the control I had over what happens to it. I realized that unless I let go of it then God cannot help. I have had to realize that God promised to supply my needs whether it be get this car repaired, replaced, or provide some other way for me to be able to get around. I can no longer trust in my ability. Unless God makes a way I am stuck out in the country with no way to go anywhere at all. I think of the scripture that says whether we live or die it is the Lord. Also except the Lord build the house they that labor do so in vain. I can no longer trust in myself to even take care of the car and this is tough for me at times to handle. It is not easy to give up control of something yet I know unless I do, then God cannot intervene. So I have given this to him and trust him to do whatever He chooses in the situation. This is for my good though painful for me but I know that when God does something it works out for my good. Obviously my efforts have totally failed. I have seemed to go through this on cars for the last three years. It seems every car has cost me money I did not have so now I find myself in debt that I tried to avoid. Circumstances were such that I had to have transportation and saw no other way even though I prayed and prayed for guidance. Funny thing is that what I have is the car I had wanted for years. Yet it and I seem to have this love hate relationship. I love the car (extremely like it cause I cannot love anything in the world) but I also hate it as it has been a real chore to keep the things fixed with no finances and so I can trust it to go very far.

So if anyone reading this thinks that you are unique with your trials, think again. We are all having them but for our good. God is crucifying our flesh so He alone can be in control. Be encouraged...Smile in the Rain!
