Seth Son of Adam, Enosh Son Seth, Kenan Son of Enosh, Enoch Son of Jared, Methuselah Son of Enoch, Noah Son of Lamech, Shem Son of Noah, Abraham Son of Terah, Isaac Son of Abraham, Jacob Son of Isaac, Joseph Son of Jacob, Moses Son of Amram, Jochebed, adopted Son of pharaoh's daughter, David Son of Jesse, Solomon Son of David, Joseph Son of Jacob who was the husband of Mary by whom Jesus was born.
These are just a few of the countless once written out in the Old Testament. It was important for everyone to be identified by the name of their fathers. The lineage was very important in ancient times and even evident in the birth of Christ. It seemed like the lineage each individual belonged to defined that person in a particular way. Especially when it had any connections with belonging to the lineage of a King or of Priests.
By taking note of people in a family line, the relationship of these people with God could be tracked making it possible for us to identify the individuals who are either following their fathers in serving the Lord or falling away from it or vice versa.
Though this was not particularly evident in the New Testament. I believe we are not different. I wondered how this applied to me, to us as Christians. We all have earthly fathers and parents, but we do realize that we belong to a larger family where God is our Father. We know we are children of God because John 1:12 tells us that "But as many as received HIM, to them HE gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in HIS name."
And it is amazing to find that the New Testament doesn't emphasize on this because its addressing all of us as children of One Father, God. And therefore it focuses on showing us how to live like children of this Father we know we have. Especially since we have been living for ourselves all our lives and clueless as to what it means to be a child of God and belong to a new family.
For our new Father sent His Son to come, live and lay down His life for us not only to make His love evident to us (John 3:16) but also to show us how to live and act as His children through the life and teachings of Christ. Looking at Jesus as our sibling, a Son of God who is our Father, we can know how the children of God are supposed to live.
So I believe like the people of old, I will be referred to as Emmanuella daughter of God.
By which name would you be called. How does it make you feel?
It should give you a feeling different from calling out our name in reference to our earthly parents. Because we belong to Someone bigger and far greater than us.
Who is our Father?
HE is God Almighty, the creator of Heaven and earth, HE is all knowing, the beginning and end, He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, He owns and possess all things, He is supreme, magnificent, powerful, amazing, marvelous, wonderful and awesome, He is the only one who can be everywhere at the same time, He says Yes and no one can say No, He is One who can do all things, impossibility is not in His dictionary, vocabulary or being. He is beautiful, Holy, righteous, rich and abides in a dwelling so glorious and beyond imagination.
In the midst of all that HE is love and loving, gracious, merciful, forgiving, patient, understanding, kind, faithful, true, caring and good. He is a healer, protector, provider, redeemer, warrior, helper, giver, deliverer and restorer. He is our shield, rock, strength, savior and hope.
This is who our Father is, this is the One we belong to. Let's quit living like children of this world and live like children of God. It's time to live by our name as a child of a holy and righteous God and King.
How do we do that? Well the Bible tells us all about it including how awesome our Father is. HE is worth living for because somehow you were worth dying for.
I am Emmanuella the daughter of God Almighty. I belong to the Kingdom of God and not the world. I live by the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven, honoring my Father by the power of the Holy Spirit in my thoughts, imaginations, motives, speech, action and deeds.
Who are you?
Call out your name. Scream it out if you have to, I amthe son/daughter of God Almighty.
I must say that my Father is still desiring more children. If you are not His child, you should make a decision to be one because HE can't' wait to be your Father and I can't wait to be your sister.
We belong!!!
