Flawed, yet Blameless and Cherished

by Shakera Reid-Stewart
2/15/2016 / Devotionals

When coins are manufactured in the U.S. mint, the goal is to make a perfect coin. Mass production and machinery reduces the odds of making a flawless coin. To a coin collector, a flawless coin that has survived this rigorous process is extremely rare and valuable.

Such is the way of the world because of human nature. The shinier, newer, prettier, more durable an object, the greater the value. When one goes to shop for a used car, we don't find the one with the most dents, and scratches to purchase. We don't often look at broke down homes and see the possibilities and marvel at the character of the place. Those who restore cars and homes, however, can see the possibilities. They can visualize what the end results will be. They can look beyond the flaws and see the value. Instead of tearing down an object, they enhance and build it up, eliminating or reducing the flaws.

Our heavenly father is our restorer. He looks beyond our flaws and sees who we can be. When we accept Him into our hearts, His word and the holy spirit works through us and in us. He sent His son to die for our sins so that we can be blameless and cherished. Although we fall short, we can just call on His name to receive forgiveness and to be restored to our proper position as heirs of His kingdom.

"All God's children are valuable to Him, even with all our flaws. He can use us if we accept Him as our personal Lord and Savior."

1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Hebrews 9:28
So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
