Live A Christian Life

by Leonard Granger
4/06/2016 / Christian Living

My Christian relative, who wrote poetry that was often published, had a complete trust and a strong faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born the year of 1799 in New York, only 23 years after our developing country was founded on Biblical principles.
Many of the families moved west into the wild, untamed, and often dangerous lands to raise their families, as did the large Bacon family. In the new state of Iowa, where they located their farm home, everyone contributed in some way to make the farming successful. Raising a large family was no easy task but they had the family Bible, God's Word, to read each night, after a hard days work. The Bible and prayer gave them guidance through many trials and tribulations.

The Bible, should be the first place to look as it gives us directions for raising a family. Proverbs 22:6, " Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." There are several more verses in the Bible about raising children and having a Christian family that serves the Lord. This child Noah B Bacon was his name and God blessed him with a long life.

God gave this relative on my mother's side, a clear mind at his old age. On his 95th year birthday he wrote a long poem about his family and serving God all his life. It was published in the Des Moines Iowa Tribune, Dec,. 19, 1894. He had been a widower 19 years and by serving God he lived to the ripe old age of 102 years young. He had poems published at age 97 and 100 which are in our family Bible.

The last verses in his 95th year birthday poem, read about his desire to have his family look to the Lord as they live their lives here on the earth.

" More than nineteen years ago my wife was taken,

And what of poor old Noah B, Bacon;

He lives to write this tale of weal and woe,

Waiting, only waiting, his time to go.

I hope to meet the loved ones gone before,

In a happier clime, to part no more.

God bless the waiting friends I'll leave behind,

Give them a heart of love for all mankind.

Grant them a living faith that has no doubt,

A brilliant light within that will shine out.

That others their good works may clearly see,

And glorify a wise Divinity.

The poem was signed " Compliments of the author, N. B. Bacon."

I pray the Lord will let me write and serve him as Mr Bacon did so many years ago.

Trust we will all be in the church of our choice this Sunday worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God Bless America
