WAKE UP CALL

by Lewis E. Thomas
4/22/2016 / Poetry

I am always complaining about my wife and her nagging ways!
She says I don't help her enough or ever give her "any" praise!

My children are always nagging me to stop and play with them!
The other night one of them wanted me to sing them a gospel hymn!

I complain about my children and the loud noise that they make!
Can't they be just a little quieter for goodness sake?

My wife and my kids really get on my nerves!
"Why can't I get the peace that I deserve"?

Suddenly there was a knock on my front door!
I thought "who can that be?" as I walked across the floor.

A Sheriff's Deputy stood on my porch with tear filled eyes!
He said, "Your family has been in a car crash and they have all died!"

My whole life was instantly gone and I bitterly wept!
Then the "DEATH ANGEL" spoke to me as I slept.

He said, "Why are you so broken and filled with such pain?"
"I thought you would be "happier" if I caused your family to be slain"!

"Now you won't be nagged by your wife or your girls and boys!"
"Now they won't bother you with all their foolish noise!"

"Now you can have that peace that you always craved!"
"Because they will all soon be buried in their graves!"

I awoke from my God given nightmare with a "Wake-up Call" on my life!
"Now I cherish all the noise and nagging from my children and my wife!"

Now I give "PRAISE" daily to my Lord up above!
For blessing me with a "precious family" to love!

Psalm 127:3-5 KJV
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord : and the fruit of the womb is his reward. [4] As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. [5] Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Proverbs 18:22 KJV
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing , and obtaineth favour of the Lord .

Psalm 128:3-4 KJV
Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. [4] Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.

Ecclesiastes 9:9 KJV
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

Ephesians 5:21-33 KJV
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. [22] Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. [23] For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. [24] Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. [25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; [26] That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, [27] That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. [28] So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. [29] For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: [30] For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. [31] For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. [32] This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. [33] Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Psalm 34:1 KJV
I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Psalm 113:3 KJV
From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised.

Psalm 146:2 KJV
While I live will I praise the Lord : I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
