ALONG CAME A SPIDER!

by Missey Butler
8/14/2007 / Devotionals

The other day while at work, I decided to take my morning break outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun and take in a much needed breath of fresh air. I spotted my favorite picnic table underneath the willowy arms of an evergreen, and knew that the invitation was irresistible!

While sitting there, I started to notice (as if for the first time) all the different kinds of trees surrounding me. There were pine trees, spruce trees, maple trees and the most gorgeous lavender and pink crepe myrtle trees, all beautifully posing, as if they had suddenly become aware of my inspecting eyes.

As I gazed at the course textures of the brownish-gray bark, I began to imagine the invisible sap quietly traveling upward, steadily carrying the much needed life substance to each branch, stem and leaf. Then I remember the words of Jesus when he said:

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (John 15:1-5).

My mind began to recall how only a few days before, the Lord had been speaking to me about the importance of knowing and relying on my own internal "Life source" which is nothing more then His divine sap (so to speak) coursing through me nonstop, 24/7. And, just like the living substance that continually moves through the trees at any given moment, I could "tap" into my own constant flow and be immediately mainstreamed into a place where I live, move, and having my being in Him! (Acts 17:28)

As I continued in thought, I happen to look down and there was a tiny, speckled spider scurrying along the wood surface of the table. Suddenly he started heading directly toward my hand, so I placed a small leaf in front of him, causing him to detour, (so I would be spared the creepy, crawly journey of his tiny eight-legs across my fingers). I watched as my little friend slowly backed up and then swiftly ran down an open crevice immediately out of sight. I glanced down at my wrist-watched and realized that my break was over and I needed to head back to my desk.

Later on that same morning as I was finishing up with a letter, I happened to notice, out of the corner of my eye, my miniature friend running full speed across the top of my keyboard! He stopped on the letter Z, and I was able to confirm that it was the very same spider that had visited me earlier.

That sly little critter, had hopped the train of my clothing, and wandered into my office! "Well hey little fellow,"(was my greeting to him) "Now you know that if you stick around here, you'll be far away from your "life source" and you won't be able to make it!" Right away I grabbed a plastic cup and transported him back outside and gently placed him under the tree, where we had first become acquainted!

At that precise moment, I realized the spiritual lesson that I was visually beginning to take in. How all of us, as God's creations, whether big or small, from the insect world, plant world or "human" world, are all very much dependent upon staying connected to our "life source" in order to survive, and not just survivebut THRIVE!

Consider the lilies, HOW they grow," we generally pass this invitation by lightly, considering the beauty and perfume of the flower, but not really noticing the "HOW" of the lily. Howit simply expresses life byway of its' life source!

The Life of God is eternally moving in the UNIVERSE, and the moment man is aligned with this force he sees things taking place very naturally and with a divine ease. It is wonderful when we sense the God Power moving through us, and when we begin to see that our body IS the temple of the Living God, and that we are chosen to be living expressions of Himselfin the Earth!

"I and my Father are one" becomes the beautiful revelation of our true life, and it can only be found in Him! What a wonderful and glorious Life indeed!

For in him we live and move and have our being. (Acts17:28).
