Will You Follow The Lord

by Leonard Granger
7/12/2016 / Christian Living

The question which is now over 2,000 years old has been, "Will you follow the Son of God, Jesus Christ or will you reject Him?" When Jesus Christ walked the earth he had many followers among the Jewish people of the nation of Israel and this question was presented several times as recorded in the Bible.
Our Lord began his ministry along the Sea of Galilee as we read in Matthew 4: 15-17. " The land of Zabulon. and the land of Nephthalin, by the way of the sea, beyond Gordon, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who sat in darkness saw great light; and to them that sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say " Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Soon after Jesus said to four fisherman the Gospel message and then he said Verses 29-30, And he saith unto them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." And they straightway left their nets and followed him"
As the followers of our gracious and loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ grew in numbers, we see where the Pharisees a specific group of religious leaders within the Jews on several occasions were troubled and even tried to kill Jesus. They wanted him dead because he was changing the things they were teaching the population that the church leaders knew was certain. They had people memorize a set of rules and laws, but when Christ came he fulfilled the law and the people were then no longer bound by it. This was a big change and it meant the Pharisees who had worked their entire lives to satisfy God's Law saw it all disappearing by a single man's teachings. They had to do something very quickly and so plotted to kill Jesus Christ and get rid of him.
We read in Luke 16:15 where Jesus warns the Pharisees. And he said unto them, "Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God."
So the Pharisees took their problem to the Romans who really did not care if Jesus declared himself the Son Of God. However, they knew that the Jews did not agree with the Roman government rule and believed that there could be an uprising against them by the followers of Jesus. So for very different reasons we read how Jesus Christ was hung on the cross, buried, and then rose again on the third day, He gave both the Jew and Gentiles followers a way to obtain eternal salvation with Jesus in heaven.
The Lord still asks everyone today if we will follow Him and put our hope, trust and faith in him, as he is the light of the World. John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them saying, " I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall have the light of life."
Trust this Sunday we will be in the church of our choice giving honor and worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
