Trinity, Two, or One

by Greg Robbins
10/09/2016 / Bible Studies

Let's start with the Jesus Only Doctrine. These people claim that Jesus is God, which sounds good at first, and there is no Father or Holy Spirit. How they came to this conclusion I'm not really sure.

1 John 5:7-8 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth; the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."

Here we see clearly that there is one God only, who manifests Himself as three distinct personalities. The Word is Jesus, but Jesus made it clear that he submitted himself to his Father.

John 10:30 "I and my Father are One."

John 12:49-50 "For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak."

1 John 2:22 "Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son."

To deny either the Father or the Son makes that person antichrist. Not THE ANTICHRIST mentioned in the book of Revelation, but an antichrist none the less. To deny the Father is to make Jesus into something that he is not. Therefore they set up an idol and call his name Jesus.

2 Corinthians 11:4 "For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him."

So the people who preach and teach Jesus Only, have a different Jesus, a different gospel, and a different spirit. This makes it heresy. They profess to worship and serve Jesus, but they actually worship and serve an idol of their own making.

Recently I investigated a group who claims that the godhead consists of only two members. The Father and Jesus. They call them by their Hebrew names. I went in open minded, but they also have all the characteristics of a cult. They wouldn't allow members to converse with me about doctrine, and would not answer my questions. These are cult tendencies to an extreme. The Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses WANT their members to talk to people outside of their group. But many cults are introverted too, and try to keep their members protected from outside influences.

Anyways, they have a sarcastic attitude toward Christians and those who believe in the trinity. As they deny the Holy Spirit, and speak against him, I believe that these people have committed the unpardonable sin.

Matthew 12:31-32 "Wherefore I say unto you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."

All of these professors of false doctrine have one thing in common. They all twist the scripture. They use many different Bible translations looking for one that agrees with their doctrine. When that doesn't get the job done, they claim that the translation is in error. So they go to Hebrew and Greek dictionaries, to prove that the scripture says something different altogether, than what is written in the Bible. They re-write the Bible to say what they want it to say, using these methods. For that matter, many so called mainstream teachers do exactly the same thing. How else could there be so many varied and strange doctrines?

So the teaching of the trinity, is only taking the Bible at face value. Jesus speaks often of his Father in heaven and of the blessed Holy Spirit. He mentions both of them from the beginning, unto the end of his ministry. It takes help to misunderstand the Bible. You need someone to help you to misunderstand it, and to twist the scriptures. You need theologians, Bible dictionaries, and commentaries, to help you twist the scriptures unto your own destruction. The Bible is actually very straight forward and should be taken literally, except where it is explicitly understood that it is not to be. Like in parables and prophesies.

Do I believe in the trinity? Do I believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Absolutely. I say, "YES I DO"!

The easiest way to understand the trinity, is to definitely know that there is but ONE GOD. He manifests himself differently much as we ourselves do. A woman can be mother, wife, and church secretary. She is always only one person, but she speaks and acts differently in each ROLE she performs. A man can be father, husband, and businessman. He is always only one person, but he speaks and acts differently in each ROLE he performs.

I hope this study has helped you. It is so very easy to be deceived today. The wolves in sheep's clothing are seemingly EVERYWHERE trying to devour us. Jesus sternly warned us to guard against false prophets who come to us in sheep's clothing. So I also want to tell you, BEWARE!
