On Being Content

At church yesterday, the sermon focused on being thankful. Naturally, I'm sure many priests and preachers centered on this topic given that Thanksgiving was a few days ago.

A few things stuck with me:

1. We should be grateful to God for what he has given us not focusing on what we believe He owes us.

2. Our goal is in being content, which is greater than being grateful. It's in being content that we are happy with what God has provided not on wanting more.

So, to answer this for myself, I came up with the following:

1. I can't honestly say I am as grateful for what God has provided as I should be. I'm constantly looking (and praying) for more!

2. I'm not content. Rather, I am restless and relentless in trying to "make things happen" because God isn't working according to my schedule.

Clearly, I have a lot of work to do. God has blessed me with a beautiful wife, healthy son, running, a great job, fantastic house and area to raise my son, and the ability to write this blog.

Lots to be grateful for. Even more so, do I have any legitimate reason to not be content with the life our Lord blessed me with?
