Silence the Accuser

by Fenny West
8/20/2007 / Christian Living

We all have areas weakness; we can all think of dumb things we have done in the past. Some of them dug our footsteps. We find it difficult to forget them or to move away from them. It is like a dead animal tied to us and our hands are tied behind our backs and we're made to walk around with it in spite of the stench.

For some of us we just always feel condemned even though we cannot put our finger to why it is so. We try to please people to cover up and yet feel unloved, unaccepted and even condemned for making the effort to please. Often it is thrown back at our faces and we regret trying to be kind and helpful to others.

For some of us, we do the condemning; we have a negative self- image that is never satisfied with what we do. We criticize ourselves; never forgive ourselves; never accept compliments but find a negative thing to say about the compliment. We have become our worst enemy as it were.

Our righteousness is as filthy rags according to the word of God. We can never be good enough by our own good deeds. We cannot recommend ourselves to God.

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
(Isa 64:6)

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God does not want us to go around feeling condemned. That was why he sent His Son Jesus Christ to take our sins, our burdens, our condemnation; negative self-image away.

"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!(John1:29NIV)

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all. (Isa53:6)

People have a right to have an opinion about us but we do not have to accept their opinion about us. Certainly, we can learn from our critics but we do not have to allow them to control how we feel.
The question is:
What do you think about yourself?
Whose report would you believe?

If our approval or image depends on what other people are saying, then that approval can be withdrawn at any time. The result is that we become like a yo-yo; going up and down in our emotions. We are tied to their apron strings and become puppets in their hands.

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.(1Thess2:4)

And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.(1John3:22)

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, (Col.3:23)

We need to hear the good news that God loves us unconditionally in spite of our short-comings. All we need to do is to go to Him as we are and accept His unconditional love.
"Come now, let us reason together,"
says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool. (Isa1:18)

'The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.'(Jer.31:3)
(also see Ephe3:18-19, 1John3:1)

When we sin, we need to go to Him in repentance, tell Him as it is and ask for forgiveness and He will abundantly pardon; because He is the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, extra-ordinarily patient and abundant in goodness and in truth.

'And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,' (Ex.34:6)

Jesus said He did not come into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John3:17)

Paul wrote: 'We are accepted in the beloved.' there is now no more condemnation t those who are tin Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free
from the law of sin and death. (Ephesians 1:6, Romans 8:1-2)
God loves us with an everlasting love. We need to accept God's word about us.
How are we set free?
acknowledge the sin that keeps you in condemnation. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness(1John1:7-9)
13 He who covers his sins will not prosper,
But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
Prov.28:13

ask for forgiveness
receive forgiveness; stop condemning yourself
.acknowledge that you cannot get off its grip by yourself. It is not by might nor by power but by His Spirit
. So he answered and said to me:

" This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:

Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'
Says the LORD of hosts. Zech.4:6

ask God for the power to overcome this sin
Thank God for His unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness.
Prayerfully make your own effort and to please the Lord and not man.
You may find yourself falling back into that sin. When this happens, don't despair. Go back to the Lord for help to overcome it. Avoid any company or environment that drags you into that sin.
Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits."
(1Cor.15:33)

1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3)

For some weaknesses the deliverance is instant but this is not the case all the time. We would struggle in certain areas. This is because we are all unique individuals with unique callings. Don't give up or throw in the towel. Keep trusting god for your breakthrough in that area.

'For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.' (Prov. 24:16 KJV)

Silence the accuser whenever he comes to remind you of your past. Do not let him control your life.

There is the story of the girl who saw her little brother mistakenly kill his grandmother's pet duck while learning to shoot in the back garden.

The boy, in great trepidation, remorse and dejection thought the best thing to do would be to hide the awful deed from grandma. But his sister had seen the whole episode and played along with him by not telling their grandma.
However, she used the incident to hold the boy in bondage. First, it was her turn to do the dishes and she whispered in his ears, 'Remember the duck? 'The little boy reluctantly opted to do the dishes. On another occasion she was supposed to go and help out elsewhere and she whispered in his ears again: 'Remember the duck?' Again he reluctantly volunteered to do the task.

It seemed there was no way of shaking off the burden guilt from of killing and hiding the duck. He had become a slave to his sister.
Finally, he became fed up of the enslavement and servitude and decided to own up to mum and get his freedom. He confessed and grandma told him she saw it all too and was wondering when he would be bold enough to own up and be free from the slavery of his sister.

'Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, "Sweetheart, I know.
You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you'

Like that girl did to her brother, Satan wants to keep us in bondage to serve him. He is the accuser of the brethren.

'And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.'(Rev.12:10( Also see Job1and 2)

Do what that boy did to regain his freedom.
When he reminds you of your past, remind him of his future.

Say to him: "Get the behind me, Satan. I am accepted in the beloved. There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. It is written, 'Come let us reason together. Though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow and though they be as red as crimson, they shall be as wool.'
"God said he would not remember my sins and would put them in the sea of forgetfulness. He has forgiven me all my sins and as far as the east is fro m the west so has he removed my transgression from me. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from the hands of the enemy. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

19He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.(Micah7:19)

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's..( Psalm103:1-5KJV)

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy," (Psalm 107:1-2)

Unless we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness then we would have no legs to stand on when the devil accuses us.

'Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.'(John14:30)

It's time to silence your accuser!

Let us pray:
Father, I come in the name of Jesus, the Lamb of God who came to take away my sins. I confess my sin (mention the specific debilitating sin to God). I have tried in my own strength but now realize that it is not by might nor by power but by your Spirit. Lord Your word says if I confess my sins You are faithful and just to forgive me my sin and cleanse me from ALL unrighteousness. Forgive me, Lord, and restore me. Lord, give me the strength and the desire to live for You; to live to please You and not man.
Jesus, I thank You for dying for me Thank you for paying the price for me. Thank you for taking my place on Calvary's cross.
Holy Spirit, come and empower me to live my life worthy as to you. I belong to you spirit soul and body.
I praise You, Lord, for Your goodness, love, compassion, forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness. Thank You for accepting me in the beloved. Thank You because I am in Christ, I am a New Creature. Old things have passed away and all things have become new.
