Cry for Help

by PamFord Davis
5/30/2017 / Devotionals

In America, Memorial Day kicked off the summer season. Young and old will walk along shorelines; stretch out on beach towels, picnic and wade or swim in the water.

Swimming is fun and relaxing for most; yet, it leads to death for the unfortunate. Trained lifeguards offer protection. Justin, one of our grandsons, is a highly skilled Northwest Florida Gulf Coast lifeguard. Our family is proud of his achievements.

Lifeguards stay alert as they look for any signs of danger in the waters ahead of them. If help is needed, they immediately spring into action.

“He sent from above, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters (Psalm 18:16 NKJV).”

Peter tried to walk on water; in peril, he cried out for Jesus help.

“Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out for fear.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.’

And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’

So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.  But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me (Matthew 14:22-30 NKJV)!”

The Lord heard Peter’s cry for help.

"And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased (Matthew 14:31-32 NKJV).”
