In Megan’s mind, there was never any doubt about her future career.
As early as second grade, Megan had proclaimed to her classmates, “I’m going to be a veterinarian when I grow up!”
“We’re still kids, Megan,” said Marsha, a close friend and classmate.
“I love animals!” Megan declared matter-of-factly. “But that’s not the main reason. The Lord Jesus Christ showed me in a dream He wants me to become a vet and provide care for His precious animals.”
Miss Martha, the students’ teacher told Megan, “I’m proud of you, Megan, for showing so much compassion for God’s creation and for listening to the voice of the Lord.”
“Thank you, Miss Martha for the confidence you have in me. I plan to always do what I believe God is leading me to do.”
During her teenage years, Megan’s desire to become a veterinarian greatly intensified. “I can hardly wait to complete my education, so I can set up my vet practice,” she said.
On the day before their high school graduation, Marsha asked Megan, “So when are you setting up your vet practice…two days from now?”
“O, no!” Megan chuckled. I still have years of educational training ahead of me.”
Years later, Megan completed all her educational requirements to become a vet. “Now, I can set up my practice,” she told Marsha.
“The road to achieving this milestone has been long and hard, but thank God I am finished,” Megan said. “Now I can fulfill God’s call on my life.”
Miss Martha had maintained close contact with Megan through the years. On the day Megan opened her clinic, Miss Martha brought her dog, Millie-Mae, for a physical exam.
Megan, who was known to her clients as Dr. Meg, recalled her former teacher’s encouragement so many years ago. “When I was in your class, you greatly blessed me with your kind words,” Megan said.
Miss Martha smiled. “I’ve always been an animal lover, and it really warmed my heart to know you were going to become a vet to help care for some of the animals God created.
Megan told Miss Martha about her plans for the future. “Within a few years, I hope to open clinics in several cities. Within 10 years, I hope to open a school to train other veterinarians.”
Megan told Miss Martha she would like to name the school in her honor, “Miss Martha’s School of Veterinary Medicine.”
“Thanks, Megan for choosing to honor me this way,” Miss Martha said. “I pray God will bless you abundantly for your kindness.”
Megan replied, “I’ll take all the blessings God has for me. But if He never gives another blessing to me, I’ll always continue to praise Him for what I already have.”
