THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

by Scott McKenzie
5/31/2017 / Christian Living

I have so many things to be thankful for. I have been so blessed to have a loving family, great friends, and most importantly a Loving Savior who has never left or forsaken me. I am so greatful to be entrusted with a wonderful ministry here, on facebook, at the residence where I teach Bible study and have various other oppourtunities to love and serve the Lord. I never knew how amazing the Lord is. He constantly shows his abundant glory to me in ways that boggle the mind.

I have faced many challenges in my 45 yrs on the Earth. Having Parkinson's Disease has not been easy. Being sexually abused at age 3 by a complete stranger was also a harrowing and life changing experience, as was having brain surgery and marriage, being divorced, and not being able to walk for two years when my feet contracted. All of these circumstances as bad as they were brought me to the saving knowledge of My Lord and Savior Jesus. I never could have faced these situations without my families love and support. Moreover, i could not have endured these hardships without the calm assurance of Christ. I am reminded of the soothing words the Lord utters in Psalm 46:10-"Be still and know that I AM God." That verse also resonates deep within in my heart whenever I am up against what are insurmountable odds. Jesus is the Lord of the impossible.

I am reminded of a story from Marks Gospel--Jesus is sleeping comfortably on a boat. The Disciples are all in a panic because of a raging storm. How can this be?? The Lord is sleeping while the disciples are stricken with fear because they are afraid they will die. I have felt that way--but that's when the Lord comes in and says "Fear not." He keeps on assuring me that all will be fine. Getting back to Marks account--The Disciples wake Jesus because they have fear. Look at what happens next; Jesus calmly walks to the bow of the boat lifts his hands and the waves cease and the storm stopped. I have had instances in my life where so many times I could have given up on God. God never gives up us. After my attempted (but thankfully failed) suicide--God came to me in a vision and  said--"My son why do you doubt me??? Have I not told you fear not for I am with you?? I have plans for you. Even after that there were moments when i questioned my faith. Jesus was there...as always. When the muscles in my ankles were so tight that my feet turned inward and I couldn't walk anymore, Jesus was there. His peace and comfort was with me when I had severe neck and shoulder pain. He was there. His gift of healing and comfort keeps on giving. I am able to walk now because I had a surgeon who was a believer tell me "You will walk again." I know that was Christ guiding the doctor, gently lifting his hand and stopping the storm. I felt  him again when i  had a spinal fusion. He worked through the doctors hands once again calming the waves. I have no pain in my shoulder anymore.

I told you before that I teach Bible study for residents in an assisted living residence. That experience came to pass because of a vision the Lord showed me. I was married to my 2nd wife at the time, things were not going well. We were fighting all the time, and i was immersing myself in Church activities. I am a Christian, my ex-wife was not. During that time the Lord showed me leading a Bible study with people in wheelchairs. I never forget that vision. I prayed that this would be my calling. Let me tell you that I am still in awe at the way the Lord made this possible. Not only have i been leading a Bible study for elderly and disabled residents, the Lord has opened doors of ministry to me that would not have been possible. With Jesus as my master, I met a wonderful network of Pastors and my mentor who i owe huge debt of gratitude, started an annual Christmas Candlelight service, a Memorial Day prayer service, and next Easter a Ressurection Day Service. I entitled this piece "The Gift That Keeps on Giving." Well that's who Jesus is.
