GOD-TRACKING IS ABOUNDING IN HIS PREDESTINED PURPOSES, IN REPENTANCE

GOD-TRACKING IS ABOUNDING IN HIS PREDESTINED PURPOSES, IN REPENTANCE

Ephesians 1:11
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will

God-tracking is all about seeking and following the purposes of God. One of the key verses for this thought is found in Jeremiah chapter 29. Verse 11 tells us that God knows the plans he has for us and verse 13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” To me, this confirms that God has foreknowledge of our lives. He is omniscient, that is, he knows all things. Yet, we must seek his will.

Jesus and his disciples had just finished eating the Passover. Judas had already left to follow-through with his scheme to betray Jesus. As they prepared to walk to the Mount of Olives Peter boldly tells Jesus that he would die for him. Perhaps Jesus took Peter by the arm and looked him in the eye. “I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.” Later that night after Jesus had been arrested and taken to the High Priest’s home, when confronted, Peter denied his Lord, three times. When he realised what he’d done, Simon went out into the cold night and wept bitterly.

This sad story reveals how Jesus knew, beforehand, that Peter would deny him. Yes, God even knows when and how I will sin. In his foreknowledge, the Lord’s plan was to deal with our sin. Later, after Jesus had risen from the dead, he graciously forgave and reinstated Simon Peter, who becomes the first great leader of his Church.

You can never disappoint God. He knows everything about you, even your shortfalls. However, this gives you and me no licence to sin! But, when we do sin, we need to hastily admit to our sin, in repentance. If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just (justice was done at Calvary) to forgive us and cleanse us from all sin. In his foreknowledge, God has forgiven you. In his foreknowledge, God has blessed you in Christ with every spiritual blessing. In his foreknowledge, God has predestined you for great things according to the purposes of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.

God-tracking is abounding in his predestined purposes, in repentance

I claim the promises of your Word…every spiritual blessing to fulfil your great purposes in me according to the counsel of your will

“Heavenly God, I realise that you know all things about me. You know my coming and going; you know my ups and downs and you know my rights and my wrongs. Dear Lord, I confess my sin – I admit to my wrongs – in repentance. Though I know that you knew I would sin, yet I seek your forgiveness and turn my back on all I’ve done that has grieved you. I claim the promises of your Word; promises that you will bless me with every spiritual blessing and fulfil your great purposes in me according to the counsel of your will. Amen!”
