What do you trust in in times of warfare? Is God your backup in battle? Battle in life is a reality and one should prepare oneself to win at all times. The forces that are for you determine your failure or success in life. This article emphasizes God as the ultimate backup in the battles of life.

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31(KJV).

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them - 2 Kings 6:16(KJV).

Every day, people face one battle or another, whether in their minds or physically. However, whether they win or lose is determined by what they trust in, what is backing them up. People depend on so many things, which can be categorized under three forces: man, devil and God. Each force has a level of power and authority, but the ultimate is God.

MAN

Man is greatly limited in his ability to save, help or deliver. He can only help based on what power and authority he has and how long he can hold unto it. He becomes stronger if he is connected to either God or the devil. Also, his inability to live (Psalm 37:2) forever limits him greatly.

DEVIL

The devil had authority and power over man (due to the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, Luke 4:6) until Jesus defeated him on the cross. Now he only has authority over unsaved souls and saved souls that are ignorant of who they are in Christ.

GOD

God is the creator of the universe; He created both the devil and man. In addition, He lives forever, which enables Him to decree a thing and ensure it is done. He is the Almighty and every other thing is subject to Him. He is the Beginning and the Ending (Revelations 1:8) and what He says stands. It is therefore wisdom to connect with this God who is all and all.

Connecting with God

God desires to connect with every man He created. He desires to carry every man even to his old age (Isaiah 46:4). If God is for you, no one can be against you. God's backing is such that they that will be for you will be more than they that will be against you. But there are conditions, which basically include:

1. You must be born again (John 3:3)

You have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, surrendering totally to Him. This enlists you as part of God's family, which entitles you to God's divine backing.

1. You must be obedient (John 14:21)

You must love and obey God's commandments for Him to manifest Himself in your life. A disobedient child opens the door for the serpent to strike.

1. You must be spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:14)

A carnal mind cannot discern the things of God and is not within the realm of God. When you are spiritual you will operate in the realm of God, realm of faith, where you will enjoy maximum protection and help from God. Spirituality reveals your inheritance in Christ and gives you access to them. It opens you up to the deep things of God and reveals your position in Christ, which is far above principalities and powers.

An understanding of your position in Christ will give you a superiority mentality and build up your faith (which is your shield) for success in battle.

The scriptures are full of examples of how God backed up His people and they had victories over their enemies. When the Israelites went to possess their promised land, God fought for them and gave them victories all the way (Joshua 21:44).

Also, when some men rose up against Daniel (Daniel 6) and got him thrown into the lion's den, God backed him up and protected him throughout his time there. But when his enemies were thrown in, God didn't protect them and the lions ate them up. Furthermore, when Herod rose up to kill Peter, the saints rose up to pray and God backed them up and delivered Peter (Acts 12:19).

However, if you disobey God or live in sin, God withdraws His backing thereby allowing the enemy to overcome you. For instance, when Achan, an Israelite disobeyed the instructions of God given to them, God withdrew His backing from the Israelites and a small nation called Ai shamefully defeated the Israelites. But when they repented and removed the accursed thing, God restored His backing and they were able to defeat Ai the second time they fought with them (Joshua 7 & 8).

In conclusion, both man and the devil are limited in their abilities to back you up in the battles of life. However, God has proven to be the ultimate force to rely on anytime and anywhere. Therefore, choose God as your back up and like David you will never lose any battle in life again.
