Standing on the wrong side of the fork

by Emmanuella Ellis
9/12/2017 / Christian Living

We were all not handed silver spoons when we were born. But everyone is handed a fork, it could appear, silver, gold, bronze or metallic but its still a fork. Being handed a fork means we would always have to make a decision at every stage of our lives. That’s what life is about, its full of choices, and its resulting consequences. No one escapes from having to make them each and every day. We find ourselves standing at the fork of the road of our lives making one decision or the other. We are often so centred on getting a silver spoon that we forget completely about the fork. The truth however is that by making good use of the fork we will ultimately get ourselves the silver spoon we so urgently want to have. Our cautiousness and consciousness of the decisions and choices we make is very essential.

With less focus on the fork that has been handed to us we often find ourselves viewing the fork from the wrong side. Instead of viewing the fork from the handle, most people view it from the tines. There is the position where you stand at one end of the fork, towards all the other tines and identify the numerous choices ahead of you, each choice beginning a path which leads to its own outcome. On the other hand, there is the position where you stand at the tines of the fork towards the handle which is just a single branch. People who choose to stand at this point of the fork, think that whatever decision they make or path they take, is going to get to the same place. To them there are different ways to get to a particular outcome and not an ultimate one.

Though this is a wrong stance, we mostly find people taking that option. Based on this, many wrong decisions are made everyday, especially one about the Kingdom of God. May people think there are different paths to Heaven and thus all you need to do is to take one and work at it. But the word of God says Jesus is the only way to God and Heaven. This means, there is only one part of the fork, just one tine, that leads to Heaven, all the other parts leads to different places. And this is only through faith in Jesus not by works or living a moral life. By sharing the word of God with others we are able to help them see clearer and look at the fork from the right direction. We also help them to take the right path that will ultimately lead them to God.

As we stand at the fork of the road, there are many choices we need to make, each with its consequences and outcome. As Christians, our lives are to please the Lord and thus we have to be more cautious about the paths we take since there maybe so many things that may seem right in our sight but may not be ultimately pleasing to the Lord. Seeking the Lord’s guidance in all our ways and trusting that HE will graciously lead us towards HIS path is very necessary. Let’s continually pray to be filled with Holy Spirit who will help and direct us, at the same time praying that we become sensitive to His voice that we will obey and grieve Him.

It is well with us.
