Pre-teen Class Hears the Story of Noah

Miss Tabitha enjoyed teaching her pre-teen class at church, and she was getting great joy from her series on Old Testament characters.

“Unlike other men of his generation, Noah was righteous and feared the Sovereign Lord with His whole heart,” she told her class.

“The world’s entire population, other than Noah and his family, had degraded to the point that no one else was able to find favor in God’s sight.”

Miss Tabitha read part of the story from Genesis 6:5-8, “‘And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.’”

Miss Tabitha told her students they could ask questions about the story. Trace was the first to raise his hand to ask a question. “How bad were the people of Noah’s time?” he inquired.

“They were full of evil,” Miss Tabitha replied. “They were very naughty and mischievous. It was like a continually spreading cancer. They were very unkind to each other.”

Theodosia raised her hand to ask a question. “Miss Tabitha, can you explain their thought processes during that time?”

“In my opinion, their thoughts, ideas and purpose had declined to the point they had very few, if any, moments that God was in their minds in any capacity,” Miss Tabitha replied. “From dawn until dusk, they were obsessed with themselves.”

“Since God created man in His own image,” how did He feel about those developments?” asked Troy.

“God was extremely unhappy,” Miss Tabitha frowned. “He was so grieved that He decided to destroy all of the world’s living creatures, to the degree their existence would no longer even be remembered.”

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord,” said Thomas. “What does that mean?”

“It means favor, charm, elegance and acceptance,” Miss Tabitha responded.

“You see, God’s creation had become so evil the only way man could be redeemed was if the creator provided and actually became the redeemer. So it was through one man, Noah, that it was even possible for future generations to exist.

“And one man, God’s Son, Jesus Christ, makes it possible for us to live with Him throughout eternity.”

“And that’s long time!” Timothy chuckled.

“A very long time!” Miss Tabitha grinned.
