Weeping Willows

The men of the 1960’s British invasion brought about change in rock and roll. Some were members of hard rock bands; other male voices were featured on ballads. Today’s scripture passage brought to mind the melodious sounds of Chad & Jeremy with ‘Willow Weep For Me.’

“By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land (Psalm 137:1-4 KJV)?”

The Psalmist lamented the captivity of his people in the land of Babylon. Their songs of praise had ceased.

Weeping can bring emotional and spiritual healing.

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness^. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up (James 4:6-10 KJV)."
