GOD-TRACKING IS REJOICING IN THE DAY THAT THE LORD HAS MADE

Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

We’ve all had experiences when something good has happened and we say, “That made my day.” I remember late one Friday evening, many years back, my wife, Karen open our freezer to realise that we had meat left for only two days. This was during the days when I was studying for the ministry and we lived by faith. It was my first year of studies and I’d left a lucrative job to attend Bible college. The little income we had between us from part-time work barely covered the essentials. “What are we going to do for meat?” Karen said. We prayed and went to bed.

Early Saturday morning there was a knock on our door. We were still in bed, so I hastily pulled on a pair of jeans and answered the door. “Come with me,” said my father-in-law who stood at the door. Squinting in the morning sunlight, I followed him to his car. Dad opened the car’s boot. My eyes fell on a whole hind-quarter of fresh meat. My dad-in-law had no idea we had need of food and just felt prompted by the Spirit to buy us a hind-quarter. That made my day!

Today is your day! Remember, as the old song goes, every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before. Traditionally, we aside set only one day a week to gather to worship God. But the Christian lifestyle comprises more than just Sunday morning kisses. As author, Bob Gass puts is, “The secret of victorious Christian living is not ‘dipping’ in God’s presence once a week in church, but ‘dwelling’ in it every day.”

I know we all have good days and bad days. I dare say, Jesus had a few bad days, notwithstanding, Good Friday. For the best part of 3 years Jesus preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God, healed the sick and loved those to whom he was sent. Then, the very evening before the day he was crucified, Jesus ate the celebratory Passover meal with his friends. At the end of the meal, as was the custom, they sang one of the Hallel Psalms (Psalms 113 to 118). Tradition has it, he sang Psalm 118. This Psalm is a prophetic Psalm about the coming of Messiah. Jesus knew this, of course. Jesus knew too, that he would be arrested, tried and crucified the very next day. Yet is sang, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Whatever your day holds; whatever happens tomorrow, good or bad, remember the Lord is there already. He is meeting your needs and preparing your way. As Jesus faced the day of his cross he sang the words, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Because of the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and knew that he would go on to be seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Today is the day the Lord has made, so fix your eyes on Jesus and rejoice. This is your day!

God-tracking is rejoicing in the day that the Lord has made.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I put my faith in you, this day that you have made

“Thank you, dear God, for the example of Jesus. Thank you that I can face today and tomorrow with the same joy that Jesus had, even as he faced the cross. Thank you that you are there already – on the other side of my cross – meeting my needs. I put my faith in you, this day that you have made. Dear Lord, your peace and joy has made my day. Amen.”
