Can You Bow Down?

by Olawale Ogunsola

“The higher you go the cooler it becomes.”

The above is a scientific fact that is not ‘contestable’. It is true to nature. Do you know that this same statement is true in life matters? When you are at the foot of success ladder, things can be hot and difficult. However, when you begin to climb the ladder of success, you will begin to experience some comfort and convenience. The wind of life begins to blow cool. The tempo changes, for the better.

The other aspect that is very important but which is missed is “The higher you go, the cooler you must become”.

One common negative tendency that goes with going higher in status is ‘inability to bow down”. In other words, there is that negative tendency to be arrogant. You have that tendency to be swollen headed.

It takes extra effort to be humble in riches or success. Yet, it is achievable!

A careful look at the Holy Bible points to principles of God that can help anyone in comfort. Not only this, an examination of certain characters in the Holy Scriptures will also be of great value.

So, let us briefly consider the life of Abraham, the father of faith.

The Holy Bible discloses that “Abraham was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.” Genesis 13:2. New King James Version, NKJV.

This status is the aspiration of many people who are of sound mind. This man of God was rich to the extent that people of his days saw him as “ a mighty prince among us.” Genesis 23:6. NKJV.

Kings, commanders-in-chief of armed forces, nobles and mighty princes honoured him. They held him in high esteem.

Did Abram, who later became Abraham allowed this to go into his head? No! To the influential people of his days and others, he was able to demonstrate humility.

     How do I know this?

“Then Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land.” Genesis 23:7. NKJV.

A rich man bowed. A wealthy man bowed. A mighty prince bowed.

Note well that he was not forced to bow down. He was not given any inducement to bow down. He did not bow down to deceive anyone. He bowed down voluntarily

Do you know what? His request was granted. What was this? Do you want to know? He was at that time a bereaved man who had just lost his beloved wife, Sarah. He was looking for a permanent burying place where his dead can be buried.

     The Holy Scriptures reveals,

“So the field and the cave that is in it were

Deeded to Abraham by the sons of Heth as property

For a burial place.” Genesis 23:20. NKJV.

Why did he get this? It was because he bowed down.

Can you also bow down? Irrespective of your status in the society, do not be too big to bow down when necessary. It has good results.

Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of the Lord.
