Worship

by Steve Countryman

I don’t know all there is to know about worship. I know that it should be part of our daily walk with Father God. Through praise and worship in our walk can we experience a deeper and fuller personal relationship with Father God.

The worship part of most services have become a disgrace! Interruption and technology have interfered with church service and more specifically with worship service. John 4:23-24 23”Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Worshipping in spirit and in truth can’t happen with your face buried in your phone texting, e-mailing, FBooking, gaming and surfing.

Then there are those who decide that worship part of the service is better spent visiting and talking with each other in church instead of out in the foyer. During one church service that I attended a “regular” member approached me in my seat and began talking to me about some health drink that he was selling. It reminded me of the buyers and sellers in the courtyard at the temple during Jesus’ time.

Worship part of the service is where we as the congregation by the leading of the worship leader and team welcome and usher in the Holy Spirit to come and dwell in our service in His presence. To allow the Holy Spirit to have His way and touch our lives as we worship Him.

Entering into worship is to shut out ALL outside influences and allow your mind to wrap around the words that you are singing about your heavenly Father and creator. What I have noticed in most churches is talking so loud that entering into worship becomes a struggle. No church is immune from phones and poor worship behavior. Phones distract and interrupt those who use them and those who are nearby. It has been so bad at times that I have been embarrassed for their behavior before my God!

Going to church is not a duty or some prison sentence where you put in your time. Going to church expecting the Holy Spirit to show up is what makes being there so worthwhile and exciting. Witnessing the move of the Holy Spirit as lives are changed and people are healed and delivered is one of the most amazing things that we Christians are privileged to see!

It is up to each of us, the church body, to monitor those we bring with us to adhere to our wishes and that of our God and treat Him with reverential fear and respect that He deserves! Does your church have the kind of worshipers the Father “SEEKS”?  Let’s make church and worship service enjoyable again as God intended!
