High School Sweethearts Discuss Marriage

Spring had sprung and was rapidly bouncing toward summer.

Flowers were blooming, the hills and valleys teemed with wildlife, and the streams were swimming with a beautiful array of fish. Warmer temperatures had arrived, and many people were taking advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy their favorite outdoor activities.

High school sweethearts Brad and Bonnie were both animal lovers. After college, they planned to get married and open an animal hospital.

“The Lord has instilled in both of us a special love for the creatures He created,” said Bonnie. “Cats are my favorite animals, because they are so cute and fluffy.”

“Whales are my favorite sea creatures,” Brad stated. “In my opinion, whales rule the oceans, much like lions’ rule their jungle domain.”

“When I think of whales, I think of the way they move,” said Bonnie.

“Yes,” said Brad. “The way they spiral up into the air, they remind me a lot of dolphins, with their grace and poise.”

Remembering that she had owned a pet dog for a decade, Bonnie stated, “I love dogs, too, and I know they are your favorite land animal, Brad. My collie, Bernard, is so cute. Besides, our cat, Bermuda, and Bernard seem like they are the best of friends.”

“We’re pretty good friends, too,” said Brad, “and I think before a couple get married they should be good friends and really get along well together.”

“I agree 100 percent,” said Bonnie. “If a couple can’t get along as friends, I don’t know how they expect to get through an entire lifetime of goals, differences, and problems.”

Brad and Bonnie frequently discussed Bible Scriptures, and they had already begun having devotions together. During one of their devotional times, Brad read several verses from Ephesians chapter 5, “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”

“I agree with the husband being the head of the family,” said Bonnie, but I also believe the wife should be the neck that turns the head. In other words, the wife should have a big input into family decisions, and a wife should be able to influence her husband in such a way to help him make the best decisions in a godly way.”

“I see we’re on the same page,” said Brad.

“Me, too,” laughed Bonnie. “I even believe we’re on the same paragraph.”
