Christ's Words Live Forever

by Susan Ferguson
5/09/2018 / Devotionals

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35, NIV).

Jesus Christ lived over two thousand years ago, and yet He remains the most influential man to have ever walked the earth.  The Son of God spoke as no man had ever spoken before or has since.  The greatest teacher and preacher who ever lived, Jesus spoke with authority and offered forgiveness to sinners.  Crowds gathered to hear Him speak and were amazed at His teaching.  He often spoke prophetically and on several occasions foretold His death and resurrection (Matthew 16:21; 17:22-23; 20:17-19).

On one occasion Jesus commanded a violent windstorm to be still, and the wind and sea obeyed Him (Mark 4:35-41).  While in Cana, by His words alone, Jesus healed the nobleman’s son, who was near death and was in Capernaum.

“‘Go,’ Jesus replied, ‘your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at his word and departed.  While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.  When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, ‘Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.’  Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, ’your son will live.’ So he and his whole household believed” (John 4:50 –53, NIV).

Christ’s words also radically changed the life of Mary Magdalene, from whom He drove out seven demons (Luke 8:2).  One of Jesus’ most devoted followers, Mary serves as an example of how the power of God can change a life.  No matter how far someone has fallen into sin, they can be forgiven and transformed into a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Christ’s words live on, and they continue to heal the sick, to transform lives, to give peace to troubled hearts, and to offer forgiveness and salvation to humanity.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the words of Jesus that touch the human heart as no other words can. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
