Infatuation and its Consequences to a Marriages

by Sim Lee
6/16/2018 / Marriage

"He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." Proverbs 18:22 ESV

There have been songs written about it and there have been many marriages destroyed by it, even during these immoral times. It is infatuation and it can wreak havoc when a married person yields to this deeply embedded aspects of our human vulnerability and steps out on their partner. The endorphins released almost immediately upon becoming "infatuated" with another person's physical appearance has made for a lot of bad decisions, all of which could be avoided with a little backbone and an understanding of this very human behavior.

Physiologists tell us that the typical infatuation of a married person for a person other than their marriage partner usually lasts no longer than forty-five to sixty days, by which time one or both in the relationship have ended the affair leaving the married participant to their own device in deal with an outraged spouse or designated lawyer. More often than not, whatever pleasure gained is usually fleeting and the resulting payback can become truly memorable and swift.

In retrospect, forty-five or so days of "feeling young again" is a poor tradeoff for breaking the trust with a marriage or losing your children in the process. Would not all married people be better off to simply and happily stay the route with the one who God gave us if we had prayed for one, or with the one that we chose for what ever reason by our own will and mind. When we said yes in our vow to our spouse, we effectively also said "no" to every other person on the face of the earth. That is the attitude that truly honors such a vow.

The Time Factor Of Marriage - The time it takes for a couple to become a team where one partner is always right and the other one is usually the husband! :)
