Lip-service…

Are you a parent, an employer or person in leadership?

If you're in a position of authority, you know the reality of lip service. Some may say the right things but their words are meaningless.

God is the final authority; He hates lip-service.

“The Lord said:

Because these people approach Me with their mouths
to honor Me with lip-service—
yet their hearts are far from Me,
and their worship consists of man-made rules
learned by rote—     
                                                                                                              
therefore I will again confound these people
with wonder after wonder.
The wisdom of their wise men will vanish,
and the understanding of the perceptive will be hidden (Isaiah 29:13-14 HCSB).”

The LORD looks into hearts. Is He finding our heart-service?

“But what do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘My son, go, work in the vineyard today.’

‘He answered, ‘I don’t want to!’ Yet later he changed his mind and went. Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.

‘I will, sir,’ he answered. But he didn’t go.

‘Which of the two did his father’s will?’

‘The first,’ they said (Matthew 21:28-31a HCSB).”

First and foremost, the LORD wants our hearts.

“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart (Deuteronomy 6:4-7 HCSB).”
