Are your children and grandchildren making memories?

We’re usually unaware of the lasting impact shared activities are making. Relationships, like plants grow when cultivated and nourished. Do you remember hours spent with siblings, cousins or friends?

I sure do. When young, we worked together in coloring books, had make-believe tea parties and played with dolls.

Your children and grandchildren will remember special times too.

And then, the teen years…

Teenagers go to dances, sleep-overs and ball games. They talk on the telephone. (That’s an understatement). Today, the young also text, twitter and chat with siblings and friends. Children of the current generation are making their own memories.

Very often, it’s the simple things that we cherish in the years to come. The roller coaster rides at an amusement park are not as memorable as the summersaults in our front yard.

As teens, my younger sister Gayla and I bonded in front of a 19 inch black and white television. Watching ‘The Monkees’ was a part of our weekly routine. She had a crush on Peter Tork and I was a fan of Davy Jones. We eagerly waited for each episode and enjoyed their crazy antics and hit songs.

While glued to the tube, we ate TV dinners on side-by-side TV trays.

At the time, we had no clue that we were making memories.

Guess what? Your children and grandchildren don't either!
