DIVINE DISCIPLINE

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Hebrews 12:9-11

‘‘He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.’’ Job 36:10 (KJV)

In the molding of human lives, discipline is a vital tool of correction especially for those we love. It puts an individual on the toe and brings one back to the place of decency.

From our scriptural reading where we read from in the book of Hebrews 12:9-11, it clearly shows that when our earthly father corrects us, we show them respect, how much more God Almighty who is greater than our parents. No discipline is enjoyable, but if we accept it in good faith, we become better people God wants us to be always.

God is a disciplinarian who does not want us to be wayward. If He gives us wealth and we use it for a wrong cause, He can decide to block that source of wealth. If it is beauty He has given us and we use that as a license for immorality, He might bring sicknesses upon such individuals unless and until we learn our lessons and repent in humility, then He may lift the ban. When God corrects us, we should not feel bad, but we should cooperate with Him. The essence is to make us His chosen candidates that have been tested and trusted for Heavenly race.

Have we been disciplined by God and we feel discouraged and unwilling to complete such discipline? Jesus wants us to serve our discipline both physical and spiritual so that He can prepare us unto Himself as peculiar citizens of the kingdom. This is an anchor scripture to always apply whenever we feel discouraged to serve any discipline either by God or man. ‘My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.’ Proverbs 3:11-12 (KJV).

Dear father, help me to serve your divine discipline whenever I am being corrected for any wrongdoing and help me to become a better Christian always. Amen.

When we run away from discipline, we enter into the cobwebs of destruction.
