AWAKE TO DIVINE RESPONSIBILITIES

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE

Scriptural Reading: Ephesians 5:14-16

‘‘ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.’’ I Corinthians 15:34 (KJV)

Saul was asleep as a persecutor of the early churches in Acts 8:3 and he became Paul when he got converted and he was awakened and was ready to die for the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hear what he said, ‘‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek’’. Romans 1:16 (KJV). Apostle Paul wrote most of the scriptures in the New Testament.

Our scriptural reading where we took our text from in the book of Ephesians 5:14-16 believers have been urged to wake up from both physical and spiritual laziness towards the things of God and Jesus will give us all it takes to stand firm so that we can behave ourselves wisely by making good use of our times because the days that we live in are full of evil.

God is an energetic father that is full of vigour and He is always ready to serve humankind at all times. Therefore, He wants us to be spiritually active and always be committed to His kingdom business. When we are spiritually active, we can hardly fall into sin and go off track. As believers and church workers, God wants us to always double-up as His foot soldiers and patrol officers and to stay awake at all times and not to disappoint Him as our Grand Commanding Officer. Let us work for God, serve Him and keep all His commandments. This is well pleasing to our faithful creator.

Have we been sleeping for too long in the areas of divine responsibilities? Let us be awake and behave like the Psalmist did when he said Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; lighten the eyes [of my faith to behold Your face in the pitchlike darkness], lest I sleep the sleep of death,’ Psalm 13:3 (AMPC). This is our anchor scripture to always apply in our daily living to stay awake to divine responsibilities.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I have been sleeping for too long now, grant me your Holy Spirit Divine to enable me to stay awake to all my divine spiritual and physical responsibilities and to please you all the days of my life. Amen

Spiritual deep sleep is the mother of spiritual great fall
