Scriptural Reading: Psalm 62:5-8

‘‘ Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.’’ Lamentations 2:19 (KJV)

I could recall one of our visitors to the church at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Royal Assembly Parish at Phase IV, Nyanya, FCT-Abuja, Nigeria. According to this woman, her son had been detained by security operatives for quite some time. Whenever she is in town from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, for her son’s issue she worshipped with our parish. At the church one day, our pastor prayed for her and said that her son would be released, and I am sure people would have taken the prayers to be normal. One day my phone rang and she said Pastor, pastor, I am that mama from Bayelsa, my son has been released. She depended on divine support and God did not put her to shame. She stood in for her son and the son was not killed.

From our scriptural reading where we took our text from in the book of Psalm 62:5-8, the Psalmist said on God alone did his soul waited, meaning, his soul found rest in God who is our great rock, salvation, and stronghold and that everyone needs to trust in God, and that we have to rely on Him and have confidence in Him at all times. When we depend on God for everything, He will surely help us even in matters we did not ask for.

God is a pillar of defence and He is more than any stronghold. With Him, there is no sorrow, shame or disappointment. He wants us to absolutely depend on Him because we live in a world where forces of darkness rule and they are stronger than any humankind that does not have God as a sure defence. When we depend on God, our fight becomes His fight and all our troubles are also in trouble as well.

Is it possible to depend on divine support at all times?  The answer is YES. Here is an ultimate scriptural guide for daily application and God will not be far from us. ‘‘And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.” 12 So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.’’ II Chronicles 14:11-12 (ESV). God truly cares and He defends His people from mishap always

Dear Lord God Almighty, increase our level of faith in you so that we can depend on you fully in all that we do through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A dependent pillar of support from the Almighty is an air-lift to victory.
