Pedophiles, A Re-visit of a Canadian Study
by Sim Lee
5/09/2019 / World Affairs
"My focus is on the church because that's where I grew up, that's where I've seen some of the horrors. That's where I've encountered survivors who, in tears, tell me that they can't pray to God because the man who abused them was praying when he abused them, or reading Scripture while he was raping them," .. Boz Tchividjian (2017), grandson of the late Rev. Billy Graham
With the staggering re-estimated numbers of minors having been sexually abused by clergy being 100,000 in one US state by one denomiation and total estimates being over one million for all of the country's denomiations, it is more than appropriate to take a second look at a results of a Canadian study done on pedophiles.
Like Canada, in the general US male population, 7% are pedophiles, with 70% of them being right-handed and 30% of them being left-handed. That makes left-handed males seem like they slightly less apt to display pedophile tendencies, until you consider that only ten-percent of the U.S. public is left-handed. That means that left-handed subjects are three times as likely to display such tendencies than right-handed subjects.
These are but simple physical observations, and certainly have no correlation to the general consensus that pedophilia is a learned behavior. The Canadian study shows quite different scientific results. Let us look at their science and data:
The study of pedophilia conducted at Winsor University in Canada during 2015 concluded that left-handed test subjects were three times more likely to be come pedophiles than their right-handed counterparts, when combined with the presence minor facial or head anomalies, such as non-detached ear lobes, malformed ears, and a high or steepled palate.*
All of this means nothing if we continue to think of pedophilia as being a learned behavior. If we can now understand that pedophilia tendencies has it's beginings in the mother's womb, then we can better understand it.
These observed facial abnormalities develop from the same embryonic tissue that the nervous system does and effects male babies more so than female, usually caused by the mother's exposure to "viruses, alcohol or drugs, obstetrical complications, or nutritional deficiencies".**
Hardly enough information to matter one way or another when considering hiring people for your church who will be working with children or with and around women, but it is one more thing to look for when doing so, if you accept the science. Do what you can to select so as to protect your young people when choosing/hiring/appointing clergy candidates or leaders.

2. In viewing U.S. victims of clergy, 80% of victims are male, 20% are female, although in some churches the number of female victims is higher. (National Institutes of Health, PMC - Sexual Abuse of Minors by Clergy, 2011)
