FREEDOM THROUGH DIVINE INTERVENTION

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE
6/03/2019 / Devotionals

Scriptural Reading: Genesis 39:20-22

‘‘who executes justice for the oppressed,    who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free;’’ Psalms 146:7(ESV).

The story of Clayton Madison would forever be green in my memories. He became a High School dropped out for beating to pulp a female teacher in his school days. At the age of 25, he had become a drug lord having his own cartel of various drug dealers. Addition to this, he also became a hired assassin to influential personalities. When his time was up, he was caught and he was imprisoned. Considering the magnitudes of all the atrocities that he had committed, he felt God would not be able to set him free. A simple prayer of sincerity he prayed to God for forgiveness, God heard him and he was listed among other nineteen inmates who were granted presidential pardon and he was set free. To him, it was like a film trick. Only God can set an individual free from condemnation.

Joseph was imprisoned but God Almighty was with him in the prison and He showed him steadfast love and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden, and Joseph became in charge of all the prisoners where he was more or less like a supervisor. There are several people in the prison who are suffering for the crime they knew nothing about, while some are suffering from oppression and others may be from the evil deeds they had done.

God is a true father that is deeply touched by our pains and He shares from our feelings. Even when we are guilty, He still wants us to come to Him and He wants us to call on Him for forgiveness and to ask Him for His timely intervention, and He will hear us just as He did to Clayton Madison.

Do we know that even in prison, our groaning can still get to God? God with us-Emmanuel. In prison, God is with us and He is not far from us. When we turn to God fully in our hopeless state and call on Him, even in our chains, He will make them be broken. We can also hold on to this scripture and apply it in our prayers on a daily basis for God to come to our rescue.  ‘Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;’ Psalms 79:11 (KJV)

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, set me free from every prison of life I have been into and restore to me every year of my wasted years. Amen

Emancipation through divine pity sets a fellow above the law of condemnation.
