Dad's Day

Dad’s day is coming.

Keeping things in perspective, we should honor our fathers every day.

“The righteous man walks in his integrity;
His children are blessed after him (Proverbs 20:7 NKJV).”

Blessed, indeed; they have stories of lifetime experiences to tell. If only I’d shown more interest

“Listen to your father who begot you (Proverbs 23:22a NKJV).”

Dad served two shifts in the Army; first in enlistment and lastly in the World War II draft.

War is not fun and games; Dad’s years in service left emotional scars.

He lost a girlfriend in the London blitz and his best buddy Mike in the Battle of the Bulge. He never spoke of his lost love but often of Mike. In many ways, Dad never left the Army; his mind stayed behind in England.

Dad’s day is coming.

I will remember him and reminisce.

Though no longer with us, Dad has never left my heart.

Memories of his laughter and whiskers against my cheek fill my mind.

I have regrets; if only I’d shown more interest in his stories. I could share them with his great grandchildren.
