GOD-TRACKING IS CHOOSING TO FOLLOW GODâS PLANS

Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

I had an experience in 1998 that convinced me of the necessity of tracking God’s will. I and my family had recently moved to the UK from South Africa with a heart for Christian ministry. In the process of job hunting, I came across a Bible college looking to set up a media department. I applied for the job and firmly believed it was for me. In the process of my application, I acknowledged the Lord and sought his will. However, despite several positive interviews, I was eventually turned down. I was extremely disappointed. “Why did this happen, Lord?” I asked my God. “I firmly believed this was the job for me. Why didn’t I get it?” As quick as a flash the words came to me, “Because, Dudley, you’re simply on track with my will for you right now.”

I was later employed by a Christian radio ministry and produced a radio programme called, OnTrack, which became very popular. OnTrack touched many, many lives across Africa and, in turn, became the source of the devotional you are reading today. You see, God wanted me to simply go through the experience of not getting what I wanted so that I would have a story to tell you of how all things work out according to his plan for our lives. And that plan is good!

God-tracking is a concept based on the fact that God has a plan for your life. It’s a plan for your benefit and the benefit of those around you. But here’s the crunch: He knows the plans he has for you, but you don’t. You are simply called to seek and track his plans and purposes one step at a time, even if his plans seem to deviate from your plans. This you do by acknowledging God in all your ways and by keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus.

Sometimes, however, as you track God’s plans it will seem that you don’t always get what you want. Your heavenly Father knows what is good for you and he knows where you will be most effective in serving him. So, don’t be disappointed when things don’t seem to work out the way you planned. Provided you continue to acknowledge God in prayer and confession; provided you continue to keep watching for his move and listening for his voice and provided you are willing to bend to his will, you will be blessed in all you do. God will achieve his good purposes through you.

I leave you with this quotation from Corrie Ten Boom, “I believe that God delights to use his children in the fulfilment of his plans for the world. I am sure he loves to use small people to do great things.” This is God-tracking.

DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY

I walk by faith in the goodness of your plans and the safety of your purposes

“O my Lord and Father, I am sorry for the times that I have gone out to do things my way. Only your will matters for me. Today I choose to seek your will – your Kingdome and your righteousness – and to look for your plans in my life. I acknowledge you in all my ways including my relationships, my work and my desires. I open my heart and my life to your purposes alone and no one else’s. Help me to track your will; help me to go where you send me and do what you command me to do. Help me to not seek to do my own will but yours, always no matter what it costs. I walk by faith in the goodness of your plans and the safety of your purposes. Thank you for your promise that I will find you when I seek you. In Jesus’ name, I pray.  Amen.”
