WALKING IN DIVINE PATHWAY

by ONOME OGBAJIBREDE
6/25/2019 / Devotionals

Scriptural Reading: Leviticus 18:3-5

‘‘For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,’’ Isaiah 8:11 (KJV)

When I was in high school then, we had this neighbour who was a security operative. The wife was working in one of the Local Government Areas in the Delta State of Nigeria, so she comes to visit the family on a regular basis. While the wife was away, this man and the two kids, and the sister-in-law would stay together and this man was fond of harassing the sister-in-law sexually. This practice continued for some time until this man was eventually transferred from Delta State to Lagos State of Nigeria. It was in Lagos State that this man was killed through a stray bullet. The path of righteousness secures a fellow’s life from danger and sin cuts short an individual’s destiny.

We have been given divine instruction not to walk in the way of the heathen, rather, we are to walk in the way of God Almighty and to keep all His decrees and laws, and anyone who does that will be able to succeed in this world. When we live by the word of God, our tomorrow will be brighter than our yesterday. Keeping divine instruction keeps a fellow safe from trouble and the divine pathway is the way of holiness, righteousness and standing for the truth.

God Almighty is a God of discovery and of purpose, and He is more than a Pathfinder. He knows every end from its beginning and He understands all the pathways that lead to destruction, and He does not want us to walk into death traps. When we refuse to walk in the ways of the ungodly, God reveals more of Himself to us, and He pulls us out from the way of destruction. God truly cares about the welfare of our souls.

How can we withdraw from following the ungodly and turn to follow the divine pathway? First, we have to realise that the ungodly are not in the good books of God, so we have to disconnect our friendship from them and come to Jesus Christ and be committed to His teachings and be rooted in His word. This will enable us to walk in the divine pathway and we can also hold on to this supporting scripture and receive a divine blessing by not following the ways of the wicked. ‘‘Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.’’ Psalms 1:1 (KJV)

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, help me to walk in your ways all the days of my life and cause me to have hatred for unrighteousness. Amen

The divine pathway is not a next door neighbour to the ungodly pathway.
