True Grits

Flo was not one to mince her words.

‘Eat my grits!’

The popular Mel’s Diner television sitcom character created a catch phrase.

I’m a Yankee and not ashamed to say that I eat grits. They’re one of my favorite breakfast foods. Before and after getting married, my Rebel husband brought several new foods into my diet. I developed a taste for fried squash, fried eggplant, boiled and fried okra and yes-grits. Once when my parents visited, I served grits at breakfast time. Mom, (thinking they were like cream of wheat) put milk and sugar on hers.

I’m not crazy about that idea or cheesy grits either.

Give me true grits.

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9 NASB).”

Paul’s message theme began with the word true; he ended with peace.

Truth and peace go hand-in-hand.

Christ Jesus is truth. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me (John 14:6 NASB).”

Seeking peace? Seek Jesus.
